These are my sons dream schools. What can you tell us about them? Mars Hill is well within his reach and Appalchian State was very positive with him after seeing him at a Showcase. We love the Academic program at Elon. Would be a great fit for him. Do you know of any other schools like them that you could recommend?

Huge difference in these schools, in size, culture, etc....

Mars Hill: small Baptist college in the mountains, D2, Ok baseball program, pretty campus, relatively isolated, but close to Asheville.

Elon: Private college, D1 SoCon ... 5,000 students, strong history in baseball - plays tough schedule, beautiful campus, strong academically.

UNCG: Public, D1 SoCon ... 9,000 students. good baseball program, plays tough schedule, more of a compact, city-style campus, good academically.

ASU: Public, D1 SoCon ... 17,000 students, average baseball program, plays average out-of-conf schedule. Except for town of Boone, fairly isolated .. Good school academically. New coach who is rebuilding program and doing a good job.

This is a very diverse list and the schools aren't very similar, which is unusual.
Hiharedheat,
I agree they are totally different schools. I'll explain. Son played at UNCG this past summer we took a tour of the school while there. He fell in love with the atmoshpere and their baseball program. Beautiful field there. He even had a night game there and that made it even more special for him. My concern was academically could he get lost there. They did not stress the interaction with the Professors like they did at Elon.

Elon we went and toured and Son felt it was too small. Then he went to their camp in Nov. and fell in Love with the Coaching staff and the school. We were glad because it seems like more of the school enviroment we would like for him. They also seem hard though for a kid from out of State to have a chance at so it is a reach for him I believe.

ASU he developed an interest after meeting the coach at the Elon camp. The response for him has been positive from the Coach. He has only done online research on that school. We hvae not been there to tour as of yet.

Mars Hill Coach seemed to really like our Son and our Son really liked him. He Coached Son's team at the Elon camp. They had alot of interaction. Our older son played their this past summer so we have been to that school. No official tour though. It is very isolated and would be hard to get to.

So that is why I asked for some help with these schools. We do realize that some of them may be a real reach for him if they do not recruit from outside the State. North Carolina is where is wants to be. Our whole family loves that State. Both Sons want to go to Scholl there though only one wants to play ball in College.

Are there any other Schools that you could recommend that would be similar to Elon academically? Son has Teachers at his Highschool that interact with him on a regular basis. We would like to find a School that does the same.
Mars Hill is very small .. if he thought Elon was too small, then he'll probably feel it even worse about MH. It's also at altitude and will be cold, like ASU.

There are some other excellent academic schools down here, many that play D2 ball and are a bit on the smallish side (but not in the mountains).

If he's really interested in playing in NC, he'll need to get seen by the local coaches in the area. One of the best venues is to attend some of the impact baseball events. The NC coaches attend these events very well and it would increase his exposure/options down here.

They cover the state as well as any organization around. The ID Camps are inexpensive (50.00) and don't need an invite. They serve as the basis for participation in later showcase events.
Mrmom,
Does your son got to App. Sr. or decided against it because of the area? I do agree with what you said about Elom. I have to admit that is our dream school for him but not really sure if that one would be in his reach or not with the baseball.

HIhardheat,
I don't think that he feels that Elon is too small now. After going back that second time he really liked it. Plus his school counselors and Teachers feel a school like Elon would be the perfect fit for him. The problem would be the Baseball side. He did their camp and the Coach was going to give feedback but he never replied to Son's email. So he has no idea if they were impressed with him or not. Mars Hill and Appalachian St. both seemed to be.

I will have him check put that website tonight. He is very interested in getting the exposure in NC so thank you for the tip.
Your son's e-mail may have gotten to them during one of the "dead" periods, when coaches can't make contact with players in any way.
As for schools in N.C. there are many you can look at for baseball/academics that may fit your needs. Do some research on the NCAA website. There is a breakdown of schools by division for each state.
I agree with HHH, Impact is the best way to get exposure in North Carolina. Good luck!
