Stop it, Doctor. No way would viewers prefer tuning in to a baseball game over listening to two retired players talk about their kids' diapers and watch them stuff hot dogs in their mouths. Why would they prefer actual baseball action instead of a split screen of meaningless background conversation for three hours?
EDIT: Yes, that was sarcasm. I was extremely disappointed with the broadcast. The game should be about the players. No disrespect to Billy Ripken and Sean Casey, obviously. Just felt that it wasn't the time or place for what occurred.
I was at the game. What was going on in the announcer booth?
Basically Casey and Ripken going back and forth while "coaching" the game.
I can see why they did it. Not a lot of "drama" to play for. A nice showcase for these players, but no real motivation to sit and watch a "meaningless" game.
Ripken and Casey generally do a good job on MLB Network... Though Casey in particular tends to overact. But agree about last night's game broadcast... Basically unwatchable. 2-3 half innings of the split screen would have been ok, not wall to wall throughout the telecast. Disservice to the players, the event, and the viewers.
It's a big deal for the kids and the families of these boy's. I would of liked a little bio on each player you know summer team, family, HS, but these two old farts wouldn't shut up and they wasn't that funny, they certainly didn't deserve half the screen where we couldn't even see these boy's play.
