They're going through a coaching change right now. Ron Atkins has been there for 20+ years and announced last year about this time that he was retiring after the '07 season (as far as I know it was completely on his own terms and he just decided it was time). They did something unique in that they opened a position of associate head coach for the 2007 season that would be the head coach once Atkins left. They hired Mark McQueen, who had previously spent about a decade as Atkins' assistant at U of R, away from cross town rival VCU. Now McQueen is the head man. I believe McQueen's background is pitching.

Otherwise the program has some history in producing big leaguers Brian Jordan and Sean Casey. Also, Tim Stauffer was drafted fourth overall out of U of R in 2003 and in the early 2000s they had some success in NCAA post season play. In 2002 they lost in the third game of a super regional against Nebraska, leaving them one victory short of a trip to Omaha.

McQueen is an excellant pitching coach. While at VCU his staff led the country in era. He produced many drafted players. His asst coach, Ryan Wheeler was at William & Mary before this where as hitting coach and head recruiter he produced 3 All American position players and 2 CAA players of the Year. He also has had many players drafted by the pros. Both men are great coaches and wonderful gentlemen. The Univ of Richmond will do fine in the future.
