Hi guys,

Did a search of USF and came up with info from 2005. Anybody have any recent information as to the program? I don't know if my son could qualify academically as he is an average student and the studies may be a bit too much for him. Also, I know the cost to our family is a bit of a stretch, but USF is a great institution and the alumni connections may be invaluable to a young man in the years following graduation. We have not spoken to the coaching staff, but they have sent many emails to my 2012 son and seem to be relentless, which of course is always nice. Yet, as always, finding the right fit is crucial.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Overachieving program. Like the coaches, field is unique to say the least, but the coaches do a good job of developing relativly unknown players. Academically, couldn't tell where things stand other then a good SAT score should get an average student in, call the coach and ask him, especially if they are sending e-mails. They are very nice, reasonable and realistic guys to speak with. My son enjoyed talking with them. HC is very approachable. It is expensive. They do recruit JC transfers and I believe the HC used to be an assistant at Arizona.

Good luck, I would definatly call them.

This should be underlined or bolded Smile

Don't know a whole lot about the school but we checked out the campus. Some beautiful old buildings, in the heart of SF - you better like being right in the middle of big city living. Some love that, some not so much.

Supporting what has been said...

Urban campus...very good academic rep...very creative use of baseball space by necessity...one of the best coaching staffs in the country if you are looking for straight shooters (players coaches)who create a culture of character the kids love...pitcher development is second to none... every year they get pitchers drafted out of nowhere...I'd be thrilled to have caoch Moore work with min on the mound...good conference, better when BYU joins...long conference travel...well worth investigating...I'd call and talk...

Exactly..

When we went on a recruting trip the program simply oozed team and you could see that the kids just loved the coaches.

Long time pitching Coach Moore is a great guy and a real student of the craft...and has had some amazing "finds".

Thanks Coach Williams...I will. Thank you for taking the time to post your comments here.

Hey Rod, here we are...finishing out the boys' senior year. Trying to enjoy every minute of it before it's all gone. That would be really cool if we saw each other over there in November. Since Sam is a pitcher I was also considering the January pitching camp. But, you know for sure we will be seeing each other in the October Senior Festival at the Peoria Sports Complex. We can talk more then.

Again, thanks all of you for your comments. My only reservation at this point is cost and if it is a fit for Sam. Guess we will eventually figure it all out.

One other thing that I don't think has been mentioned. They move (and offer) on a much slower time line.

In other words, they wait, and examine players and think and wait some more. At one time, they put out a 'recruiting philosophy' that said they wouldn't offer before July heading into senior year...not sure if that still stands or not.

They are very good at this and one shouldn't get discouraged. Its just their approach and they've been very successful with it.
