Steve, hopefully if it's good baseball weather it'll be good golf weather as well.

Sometimes early March sees the beginning of spring with some blooms. Sometimes (like last year) winter won't let go.

Some of the better public courses in the area:

River Islands (my favorite layout in Knox County - you play onto some islands in the French Broad River and then across to the other side, play in the other county for awhile, then come back to Knox County via the islands.)
others...

Egwani Farms
Avalon
Eagle's Landing
Willow Creek

Downtown is adjacent to the university campus, so there are a number of hotels. Marriott, Crowne Plaza, Hilton, Holiday. There's a new boutique hotel called Cumberland House that on the outskirts of campus. All these are a bit of a hike to the baseball field, but you'd likely be driving anyway.

Knoxville used to be one of the national leaders in per capita dining. There are a bunch of good restaurants offering most any kind of fare. If you have a particular preference I can make some recommendations. There are several in the vicinity of campus. Calhoun's is a must for some local flavor.

If you like micro-brews we have a couple. My favorite is called The Downtown Grill and Brewery. Calhoun's also markets their own brews in their restaurant on the river.

I don't get out like I used to, but if you want to know about a particular type of night spot I can provide some recommendations as well.

We can have some great weather in early March, or it can be brutal. Let's hope it's the former.

Thanks for the info as the micro brews are a must stop after some good weather and a good game. It is amazing how in the year of almost 2006 there is still some humor left in the world. Being a Northern fella with our most southern player from Ohio we are looking forward to some humor and good weather. Thanks again for the course tips and Calhoun's.
