Well im am only a Freshman in high school. I love baseball its my #1 Sport. I have a 4.0 GPA through elementry and middle school.

With all that outta the way...

Is UT hard to get on. My mind is telling me that you have to be the best of the best to play for Augi. My Dad is alumni of UT and so i was wondering if anyone goes/plays for UT. I am open to anything suggestions, reccomendations, etc.

UT doesn't have to put forth much effort to recruit...folks are standing in line that want to play for them! Great program, great tradition, great record.
I'd suggest you visit the longhorn site frequently, do lots of homework on players, transfers, etc. Usually they have several drafted each year.
NCAA has "sanctioned" them for academic underacheivement, they will be loosing 1.17 scholarships, leaving 10 for 2007 to split among a squad of 35-45 players. This will have a big affect. (see Texas thread).

It is accurate to say that UT kind of "has a line" on certain kids during the HS years. They go to WWBA in Georgia in July & Oct.,Area Code, a well established national network of HS Coaches, former players, alumni, Showcase personel, etc.

UT hosts a series of excellent camps during the summer. Some kids have been recruited using this vehicle.

2006 recruits (Texas & Fla kids) I know personally & son has played with & against, are also strong draft prospects this coming June.

Hope this gives you an idea or 2. It's a great program. Make sure its a good fit...The Campus is huge, about 60,000 students...Most of Texas is "Longhorn country!"...And it IS a party school!!
AKFirstbaseman - don't know what your situation is at the HS or how the coaches work, but a common thread I see is that if you can play better than the next guy it doesn't matter if he's a junior or senior. We had a freshman first baseman last year that beat out two juniors. Being 6'5" and slamming the ball may have had something to do with it along with being able to play first base. My son almost always played first base until high school. He is a "slicker" fielder than that freshman last year, but at 5'8" he would have missed a few "up top" that the freshman got. He has played outfield on both JV and varsity and enjoys it a lot.

I have a feeling i can make the team but id rather play some JV for a year as a freshman instead of sittin the bench on varsity because if i made varsity then i would have to compete with the two best players on the team. There both nice kids and there 3-4 inches bigger than me and seniors, and seniors have to play Varsity. But i dunno tryouts are a week from tommrow and im prepped and ready i cant wait for baseball.
