I just found out that a company making two specific brand-name ash, birch, and maple bat lines will also sell unmarked, unlacquered (i.e., "natural wood") bats made from these same woods at approximately half the price of their branded bats.

Ash = $30, Birch = $38, Maple = $42.

Any secret High School rules that I don't know about prohibiting my son from using an unmarked, unfinished bat constructed from a single piece of wood that has a legal barrel diameter and legal length?

As long as it's 2 3/4" or less in diameter and not more than 36" in length, he can burn "Savoy Special" into it if he wants to.
