Runners on 1st and 3rd...pitcher picks runner off 1st who gets caught in a rundown...runner on 3rd breaks for home and SS let's him go to get the out.
Catcher steps 2-3 ft in front of plate, but runner slides left of the plate and spikes the runner. Coach complains, but ump allows the run and tells the catcher he has to get out of the way.

Besides being a bush play, shouldn't the runner that spiked the catcher be called out as well?

It's very hard to give a definitive answer to this situation without actually seeing the action that took place at the plate. However, based on the info you have provided, it would appear that the runner had an ample path to the plate. ("Catcher steps 2-3 feet in front of the plate") Even if the runner thought the throw was coming to the plate, a logical place to slide would have been to the right in order to evade the catcher who was on the other side of the plate. The fact that the runner executed a slide to the left and spiked the catcher (and I don't know if the catcher was even looking at the runner or if the spiking was intentional) could be construed as an attempt to injure. If that was the case then malicious contact could be called.

This is only an opinion though. Seems to be a HTBT.
