Unfortunately - it doesn't display as cleanly as I would have liked, but the numbers following each team name represent wins, losses, ties, Preliminary Index, Tournament Index. The standings are ordered by the Tournament Index (Highest to Lowest). If you're a glutten, read on for a sample explanation.

Prelimanry Index = (Class L Wins x 40 + Class I Wins x 35 + Class M Wins x 30 + Class S Wins x 25)/(Total Games Scheduled) or 1 if a team has no wins

St. Thomas beat
Dover - L, Coe-Brown - I, Oyster River - I, Kingswood - I, Bedford - I, Kennett - I and they have a 16 game schedule
Preliminary Index = (40+35+35+35+35+35)/16 = 13.438

Tournament Index = (Sum of the Prelimary Indexes of the teams you have beaten)/(Total Games Scheduled) x 10 **The x 10 just moves the decimal for easier reading

St. Thomas beat
Dover - 4 Class L Wins, Coe-Brown - 5 Class I Wins, Oyster River - 1 Class I Win, Kingswood - 4 Class I Wins, Bedford - 2 Class I Wins, Kennett - 3 Class I Wins and they have a 16 game schedule
Preliminary Index = (8.421+10.938+2.188+8.750+4.375+6.563)/16 x 10 = 25.7710

Everytime 1 of these teams wins it will increase St. Thomas's Tournament Index and that is why it's so important to beat quality teams that will accumulate wins over the season. Beating a team that goes 0-16 does very liitle for your Tournament Index. If you have read this far you are officially as "sick" as I am Smile
One more thing for you folks from Lebanon asking how can you possibly be in 6th place with a perfect 6-0 record.

Lebanon has beaten
Hanover - 0 Wins
John Stark - 1 Win
Kearsage - 2 Wins
Milford - 0 Wins
Plymouth - 0 Wins
Pembroke - 2 Wins

Your next opponent Merrimack Valley has 4 Wins so a "W" in that game would yield some nice Heal Points - plus you can root for your archrivals from Hanover to win some games and get you even more points Smile
Check this thread a couple of times per week for updates. Note the new column to the end "T-Wins" which summarizes the number of wins by the teams you have beaten. You can see that this is a simplified way to determine the Heal Standings - interclass play is what makes the formula seem more complicated than it really is.

No, there is nobody moving up from D2. The only movement in the top 2 divisions is Goffstown moving from 1 to 2.
I believe both Portsmouth and St. Thomas would be competative in Division 1, but these decisions go beyond just baseball....
Isn't Goffstown in first place in Div 1? And haven't they been pounding other Div 1 teams?

Goffstown
4/12/10 at Bedford (W 12 - 1)
4/13/10 at Bishop Guertin (W 7 - 0)
4/20/10 at Manchester Central (W 7 - 1)

i think you can move up in a sport now. before it had to be all sports, exept football and lacrosse i think. they have divisions.

in my opinion the school itself hasn't had a good vibe in quite a few years, this class I thing has brought the school much closer. i must say i fought against it for years, still wish they were L. the school is better for it though.
It was my understanding that all sport are going to Divisions away from class. The reason was so a school could have a D2 basketball team, D1 baseball, D3 softball, meaning that the sport would play against equal talent not just school size. And the beyond baseball thing is that some of these teams are winning and like it don't want to risk moving up a level. Plymouth football hasn't lost a game in five years. They play in D4 football. Portsmouth has won over 50 games in a row, who doesn't think they should be in D1. All I am saying is that changing to division is supose to equal the playing ground, but it isn't. Now teams are moving down, or staying at the same level. I give you an example of size, Berlin is in Class M, but have D1 hockey team, their hockey team program is very good, rest of thier sports are M. They are one of the few schools that doing it right.
The explanation of the change that I saw allow schools to move a team up or down a division in any particular sport. Hollis/Brookline is moving up a division in girls s****r and another girls sport that I can not recall.

A team would move to to a different division if:

1. If they feel they need to move up to play at a higher level of competition.

2. If they want to move down due to being unable to compete year after year in a partiticular sport.

Even if Goffstown HS moves to D2 they can petition NHIAA to have baseball be in D1.

Goffstown won the D1 champioship in 2008 and is always competitive in D1 for baseball. If I was a Goffstown parent I would be disappointed if baseball did not stay in D1.
Chris,

There has been many discussions in Portsmouth about this situation. Regardless of what some my think, its not fun beating teams on a consistent basis such has been the case with baseball. Our city does have a very good baseball feeder program and its shown in the teams success the past few years. I don't know much about Class L but I beleive Portsmouth would have been very competitive in baseball in 2008 and 2009 and somewhat competetive this year.

The problem as I was told is that if a team is in a "class", if they petition to go up in a sport, ALL TEAMS much go up. In our case, this would have been the end of our football program, and probably other sports, we just don't have the numbers to compete at an all sports level in Class L. This is why the NHIAA is hoping to go to Classes so a school with a good program (on a consistent basis) can move up to face better competition.

Nobody is winning as it stands now. Players who have skill to move on to college sports don't get better facing average competiion, opponents (including parents) openly question why a school such as Portsmouth is playing in a Class that is not appropriate, and its not fun for the players. We do not have a choice. However, I don't understand why we didn't play part of our schedule against Class L teams as is allowed. Nobody has an answer for this one. The winning streak? I have never heard one player mention this in the past few years - I don't think the kids give a hoot about it.

Using our son as an example, for the most part, playing in Class I in baseball sets him back as he moves into his summer schedule. We saw this last year in the first few weeks of play in summer 09. He was way behind the eight ball when he faced excellent pitching. Not a knock on the opponents just a fact that you get better playing against better competition.
I think bb603 has it right, and I think this new divisional change will be good as it allows schools to petition up/down on a sport by sport basis.

I just wonder how things will work in this scenario...a baseball program has a strong junior/sophomore class, with strong pitching, and has a weak freshman/middle school class, with little to no pitching. Will schools look at their team strength that far down and move back and forth based on their perceived strength/weakness? Or will they stay in one division for years at a time and only after a large sample of success & failure decide to move up/down. Is there a mechanism in place to lock a team in for x number of years? I hope teams look at their overall history and decide to petition up/down and stay there.

Personally, I'd love to see all the talented baseball teams with a historical success level in the sport move up to or stay at Division 1 when the alignment takes affect. NHMONTY is right...you get better playing the best.
Only 1 game through yesterday (Wed, May 12th) missing a result - Con-Val @Conant - a win would add a few points to Con-Val's total but will not change the standings.

Hollis/Brookline (+7 from 21 to 14), Bedford (+6 from 12 to 6) and Kearsage (+5 from 16 to 11) were the big positive movers up the standings in games played after May 7th

Includes all games played through Friday 14-May. Conant/Hindsdale not reported. A Conant win would add 1+ more points to Con-Val and Monadnock, but would not change the overall standings. Hanover/Kearsage makeup was schedule for today, but no report as of yet.

Pembroke's win over Lebanon was a Heal Point Bonanza and moved them up to 6th place for now despite their sub .500 overall record.

Thanks for doing this. With their 6-3 win over Milford yesterday, I believe Oyster River's record is actually 6-9.
Fivehole & SeacoastDad - Thanks for the catch - I had the winner reveresed on the Oyster River / Coe-Brown game from Friday - Corrected standings listed below

A St. Thomas win over H/B will get them the #2 seed even if Lebanon beats Plymouth. With both of their regular season's completed, Con-Val will almost certainly move past Pembroke for the #4 seed based on results involving teams that each team has beaten. Souhegan can also get past Pembroke with a win vs Milford in their final game and a Monadnock win over Fall Mountain, but it does not look like they can overtake Con-Val to get in the top 4.
