My son will be attending an Instructional Camp being held locally in December. This is the 3rd or 4th year of the camp and will be attended by 25-30 college coaches from around the country. Do you think it would be a good idea to contact (emails) coaches from the schools he has interest in letting them know of his attendance? Sort of a pre introduction so they might look for him during the event.

IMHO,
The value of attending any camp or showcase is enhanced if the coach(es) in attendance already have you on the radar and a sheet with juniors name it on their clipboard. Camps can have a number of different things going on simultaniously. It benifits the player to have the coach keeping an eye out for the players interested in his program.

I would be pro-active to the point of sending emails with juniors bio and stats, a link to his website that has video (if he has one), and follow up that with a phone call to the coach(es) if appropriate. If the school is a fit, academically and athletically, it helps the athletes cause tremendously by showing genuine interest in attending there. Coaches like to know you want what they have, and if the fit is good, the effort and interest will usually be reciprocated.

Best of luck.

I've asked this question on here a few times, but I don't think I have gotten a good answer.

It depends on what Division the school is from (DI, DII, DIII, NAIA, or JUCO), DI's, they can't leave campus to "recruit" during quiet or dead period.

Even at all levels, it also depends on what the coach is doing at the "camp", if the coach is working coach getting a little extra $$ for his pocket, they are allowed, but can't do "recruiting".

Yes! Absolutely.
Emails are good,...and a call to the coach from the player, doesn't hurt any either.
Coaches are looking for kids who WANT to play for them.

I hope your son has a great time! Smile

I was telling a coach about a player one time and he said that they had no idea that he had interest in going to their school nor had a chance at signing him, well, they end up signing him and he will most likely be their Friday starter this year as a Sophomore....

They are allowed to leave campus to participate as a paid instructor at camps. It's a workaround for showcasing kids during the quiet period.
