The ABA TX/OK team, which includes five area players from last summer's DBAT 17 team, won its second game today, beating the Bayside Yankees at the San Diego Padres complex.

This wood bat tournament is coordinated by Ted Heid, the director of Pacific Rim Scouting for the Seattle Mariners. The field consists of 50 teams.

The ABA TX/OK is 2-0 and faces the ABA Cubs at 10:30 Sunday morning, followed by a 1 p.m. game vs. Team Hawaii Gold. The team is coached by former Newman Smith player Ryan Brewer, who now runs a baseball academy in Albuquerque.

All former DBATers are contributing. Today (Saturday), John Michael Twichell launched a home run to deep right, Ryan Payne tripled to deep center field, Kyle Arnsberg collected a double and single, U. of New Mexico commit Brett Doe collected a hit and flashed his glove and arm at shortstop and U. of Oklahoma commit Abel Baker continues to hit the baseball with authority. . .just as he has all year.

Arnsberg is scheduled to start one of Sunday's games on the mound.

Even in mid-October, Phoenix is hot: Low 90's at game time.

Team Texas finished out its schedule by beating the ABA Cubs and Team Hawaii before catching a flight back to Texas late Sunday night. That Cubs team had some real talent - good bunch of players.

Overall, a great showing for the Texas players, as they went undefeated over their compressed four-game schedule.

Hawaii held a 3-0 lead early in the secomd game Sunday and broke out the smack talk. . .until the third inning when Texas broke out the sticks and went to work racking up runs.
