I see that the Swarthmore coach has left and moved over to coach Ursinus. Does anyone know what happened here? It appears to be a sideways move from 2 schools maybe 30 minutes apart and in the same conference. Maybe the coach was tired of recruiting to meet the admit standards of a school like Swarthmore?

My son plays at Swarthmore. They have athletic TIPS like every other high academic program. They do make exceptions for athletes; just as they do for cellists, debaters, or other specialists who can add value to the community but don't come up to the ridiculously high academic standards of the regular community. Coach Exeter left for for personal reasons that have nothing to do with baseball or Swarthmore. Some students walk-on but a walk on hasn't received playing time in years. Normally he doesn't have to cut walk-ons, they just leave on there own, or stay, whatever. Just this year they started to limit the travel squad.
Just so people understand the math. At Swarthmore, Williams, Amherst, MIT, UChicago, etc. Its impossible to field a team without favoring athletes. Swarthmore has a 15% acceptance rate. If baseball players were accepted at the same rate as regular students a coach would have to have 56 recruits apply to yield 8 players and then hope they all matriculate. So obviously there has to be preference to the coaches choices.
