I am here.I am refraining from public comments.I believe it is a just decision, and best for the boys.

I hope Dan and the players have a great season. They have worked hard,The young men that attend USC attend for reasons beyond just baseball, many want the tradition and the education.Theyre are some fine young men on that team. There are some fine families as well.

I dont like to publically discuss my opinion about people on a public forum.I really just talk directly to the source.

i don't know what the rules are but my son's dI had the players sign waivers saying they were willingly volunteering to attend practice. If I were to say that my son was punished for missing one of these would not be exaggerating. he's on the east coast, so apparently there are lots of ways to get from point A to point B.

55mom- In January of my senior year of high school, I received a phone call at 6:15 AM from the varsity coach asking me why I wasn't in attendance for the optional 6 AM team workout. I told him I wasn't feeling well and that I was in bed. He called me a lazy piece of you-know-what and hung up. I had been absent from school the previous day, which the coach was aware of due to my absence from his class. I missed the next two days of school as well, with a fever and a stomach bug.

When I got healthy and got back into the gym with my team the following workout, I had to do punishment running because I had shown a lack of maturity and leadership in missing the optional workout.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one.

Wow JH, what a Prince!  I hope your ex HS coach thinks about what a jerk he was everytime he sees a Washington Nationals logo the next 10 years.

there really is no such thing as an 'optional' workout, that's why I like practices at the normal time when everyone can be there and we are all together and people aren't looking around saying, 'oh, I see that johnny and frank are missing'

I've got nothing against guys doing extra work on their own and i'm sure that's what 99% of the college guys are doing... but I guess at USC somebody blew a whistle.

trojan-skipper- I had my ups and downs with high school baseball. I haven't spoken to my coach since the day we lost in a playoff game that same senior season, and I don't really plan to any time soon. But...it definitely helped shape me for the future. Patience and persistence aren't easy attributes to teach yourself, and that coach forced it onto me. I would've loved a better experience, but I don't resent anything or anyone at all. Not any more at least.

As for the USC thing...there's always more to a story than what is told. I will reserve judgment, being that obviously I have no connection to the situation whatsoever. I hope for the best for all parties involved though.

Thats a good attitude and sometimes it takes time to reach that point. But its a healthy place to be.

I think this is a classy attitude. I commend you for this approach. If I could give you +1 or like your post I would.

I did not know Frank well having only spoken with him twice. Still I liked his honest up front approach when talking with my son and I.

Chad had shown an interest in my son, and with a pitching coach like Tom House there, we seriously considered it. Sadly for us Chad was fired and Tom decided to step away after Frank was made interim coach. He sat down with us along with House, and told us straight up that he did not give scholarship money to RHP's throwing under 93, and LHP's throwing under 90. He did however offer a preferred walk on, but with USC being $55K per year, we had to respectfully decline. Still I respected his candor even though I believed he was too focused on velo, but that was certainly his prerogative.

I'd like to think USC will find the right person to lead them back to the glory days, and I suspect they used the NCAA violation issue as a reason to make the change.
