Hoop, it was my pleasure in getting to meet you. The HSBBWeb is a great gang! I also got to see MktgAdMan at that game. Good luck to you both and especially to your boys.
RHSfan
Thanks for the kind words, RHSfan. Enjoyed reacquainting with you after two years - even if for a brief time. All the best to E.T. as he starts a new chapter in his career at Faulkner.
Jammer - I noticed it was your first post on this Web site and that you reside in Florida. You must have some kind of axe to grind with UT Martin, since you have no clue what is currently taking place under Bubba Cates. The Fall 2004 signees will be the most impressive class he has signed to date and they all will contribute immediately and over four years. Other top junior players in the state are already noticing and considering a role in helping Coach Cates build a winning program at UT Martin. Read the previous posts -- heads are turning.
If you have no clue, then your comments are meaningless and unwarranted.

Jammer- Quite the obnoxious and misinformed statemet. As I have established in previous posts, I have evaluated all but one of the UTM signees. I know that they are all Division I talents (all recieved interest from schools in top conf. i.e. SEC, ACC) and more than a few have possible pro careers in the future. Baseball America recognizes TN as having one of the deepest prep classes in te entire country and UTM has signed three of the Top 30 prospects in the state according to Baseball America (Rezbeck, Raccuglia, Hooper).
I must admit that while I have only known coach cates a short while, I know that he is a good man and has changed his recruiting approach. UTM is up and coming for sure.
Lastly, What High School teams do you know of that can play Vanderbilt and Wake Forrest into extra innings and compete in a very solid southern D1 conference like the OVC?
Nice post, Jammer.

UTMartin is the worst D1 team in the country. NAIA teams, Div.2 & Div. 3 teams beat them regularly. They are really bad, this 2004 class can start immediately.

Jammer62 and Jammer63 or JG,
I see your a UT Vol, why the hate for Martin?
Jammer,
You sure don't like them skyhawks, huh...?
I must tell you, and I think I speak for alot of the websters, your comments are foolish, misinformed, and offensive to the fans, supporters (im one of them), recruits and all of the other top TN players who have been fortunate enough to be recruited by UTM.
Your comments lead me to believe that, due to thier unprovoked and obnoxious nature, either you or someone close to you is upset that participatig in a D1 program is not in the cards. Thus, one may feel the need to rip on a D1 school that is obviously on the upswing to make oneself feel better about the level one is currently participating in, or never did reach at all...

UT Martin 2004-2005 Recruiting Class from Tennessee (as it now stands):
John Hooper - P - Goodpasture
Chris Rezabek - C - Bolton
Bryce Carden - OF - Centennial
Blake Turner - IF - Brentwood
Joe Raccuglia - IF - Franklin
Miles Moore - P - Crockett County
Appears there were no casualties to the MLB Draft, so should be an infusion of "new blood" to the Skyhawks baseball program this fall.

Just happened upon this thread. I have a good feeling the sons will hit it off as well as the dads and have a great college career and experience. Sounds like the future is bright for UTM.
As far as the jammer comments. Just a waste of bandwidth.
Best of luck to you all. Enjoy!

Forgot to add. Since this post is old. How did the first year go?
SBK - Thanks for the kind words and support.
The thread is indeed current and the recruiting class arriving at UT Martin for Fall 2004 semester will be the strongest they've ever had! These young men are believers in Coach Cates and his dedication to building a solid program.
We're still waiting on qualifying news from another TN blue-chip player and have heard that a couple of other Class AAA players may also walk-on this fall.

SKYHAWKS LAND TWO MORE MID-STATE BASEBALL PLAYERS
August 4, 2004
MARTIN, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Martin has signed two Middle Tennessee baseball players to scholarships recently. With the two signees, the Skyhawks have now signed 10 players - six from Middle Tennessee.
Eric Walker, a left-handed pitcher from Marshall County High School and Zach Dean, an outfielder from La Vergne High School in Rutherford County are the two newest roster additions.
"Both Eric and Zach are outstanding young men," said Bubba Cates, the Skyhawks' head coach. "Both are good students and have the talent to help us out immediately."
Walker, a 6-2, 165-pound left-handed pitcher, is from the same high school as current Skyhawks, Brett Spivy and Scott McClean.
Walker helped Marshall County win three district championships, three regional championships and the 2003 sectional championship. He also earned all-district and all-region honors this past season, in addition to being named the Marshall County Spring Most Valuable Male Athlete.
"By signing Eric we now have three left-handed pitchers, and you can never have enough left-handed pitchers," Cates said. "Eric comes from a good Double-A baseball program at Marshall County, and it will help us."
Dean, a 6-0, 180-pound outfielder, was a four-sport (baseball, football, swimming and basketball) athlete at La Vergne. He was named the school's student-athlete of the year this past spring. He helped lead the Wolverines to a state championship in 2002 and district, region and substate titles in 2001 and 2002.
"Zach is a good all-around player and a good defensive outfielder," Cates said. "He will give us some depth in the outfield, plus he is another early lineup, left-handed hitter. He, too, is an outstanding player that should help us."
With Walker and Dean, Cates has signed 10 players for the 2005 season.
"This is one of the largest and one of the best recruiting classes we have ever signed," Cates said. "This is a good class of freshmen players who can help us right away, and more importantly, a group we can watch develop."

Yet another Middle Tennessee signee to add to the impressive 2004 Skyhawk Freshman Class:
Kevin Holt - INF/OF - Hunters Lane HS
Kevin's bio from Top 2004 TN Players:
2004 2nd team Tennessean's All-Midstate; .421 BA, 47 RBI, 10 2B, 16-19 SB
Must give the kudos to Hoop on this one. He heard about this some 2-3 weeks ago, but we wanted to wait to confirm when both our boys reported to school this week. Hoop says he is as solid as they come - and another great addition.

I did hear about Kevin a few weeks back and I can tell you I was excited about it.
Kevin is the real deal. he is a low key type of kid and very unassumeing but but if you have to pitch against him you are in trouble.

Ditto
Kevin Holt is the real deal. I've watched him play and develop since Coach-pitch Little League. Great young man from a great family. Talk to him for a few minutes, and you'll be impressed with his manners. One of the most polite young men you'll ever meet. Very thoughtful. Very talented. His bat is a plus tool. Hits for power and average. Good hands and very good speed for his size. He has a future.
