According to what folks are posting here, looks like UTA is doing their fair share of recruiting some pretty decent talent. Maybe this is the first step of UTA becoming a competitive team year in and year out.

Again, thanks to both of you!

I agree with you 100%. It seems the coaches are committed to getting the home grown talent now. My son chose UTA for several reasons #1 the opportunity to play as a freshman #2 close to home #3 have the opportunity to play along side Chad Comer and Michael Choice #4 play against really good competition.

I hope that UTA sticks to this plan and they will be a good ball club for years.

Congrats to Adam. We have seen him pitch several times.
My subscription is about to expire so I will use this as my last post.

I know there are a couple of folks here who know and like to follow Rett Varner at UTA, just an update, Rett is throwing the ball well and has been clocked this Spring in the 93-94 range. This of course has caught the eye of some of the big boys. My son tells me that not only can Rett bring it, he is an outstanding person.

Michael Choice who many here know from the Mustangs and Mansfield has already had an outstanding career and is only in his Sophomore year. Michael just yesterday was invited to tryout for the USA National team, the first player from UTA ever invited. If you have never seen Michael play, check out a UTA game, you will see one of the top players in the country.

Finally, if you want to stay local, play some good baseball and play for a good guy in Darin Thomas, consider UTA, I think they're headed in the right direction.

As catcher likes to say "adios"

I had the honor of coaching Michael at Timberview (as if he had to be coached) and I will tell you that not only is he a GREAT player, but and even better person. He genuinely loves baseball and I never heard him say a negative word about a teammate (and trust me there were opportunities).

He is a special kid and as a UTA alum, I am proud to see them starting to get some high level local kids.

It has been a pleasure watching UTA this year, and yes, their coaching staff is doing a great job. The big 3 of Choice, Otto, and Kainer are all hitting at a .400 or higher clip. Otteman is currently at .440 or so. Varner, Boydston, Long, and Sauter (when he was healthy) have been fantastic on the bump. Many others have contributed. The team has had numerous comeback victories, and will have a good seed in the Southland Tournament, even after a rough weekend this weekend at SFA. Congratulations, Mavericks.
