FL...Corbin is a hot coaching commodity. Did a nice job this year with a senior-laden squad and a star in Sowers and another pitcher (forgot the kids name).

Has already been mentioned at several vacancies.

When he first got there, I said that I believed he wouldn't last 5 years. Not because he's not a good coach, but rather because he is very good and the program at a school like Vandy is not likely to be able to keep a quality, high energy coach who is in high demand at more nationally recognized college baseball programs.

I still believe it. He's gone in the next 3 years.
Beenthere doesn't know what he's talking about. He's been on this kick for a long time, don't pay any attention to him.

Corbin just turned down Auburn this summer to remain at VU. He got more money, a promise to build more facilities, and raises for his assistants. The Chancellor at VU is committed to the baseball program. Plus the pitching coach was just named pitching coach of the year, and signed a three year extension this week.

Ask Beenthere who VU beat in the NCAA Regionals this past season.
swing...Doesn't matter who Vandy beat (SEC vs Ivy League equals NO CONTEST in baseball!)...they didn't go anywhere either with the talent that they had left "pre-Corbin". You will have to admit that the seniors really played exceptionally well this year. Wasn't that the group that was so outstanding at the Cape in 2003? Not likely to happen consistently at Vandy. Let's see what happens with no Sowers as the Friday night stopper now.

I like Vandy and I love the SEC. The fact remains that Vandy is not likely to keep him if some big college baseball powers come "knockin'"!

I know plenty about college baseball and the SEC in particular. As I said (and has been borne out by the fact that Corbin has already interviewed with Auburn), he'll be gone.

....Because he's good!
Beenthere....I'm sorry, but exactly how many seniors did you think were on this team?

There were only 3. Cesar Nicolas, Worth Scott, and Jonathan Douillard. Three solid seniors yes, but VU does have a Baseball America all-american 2B Warner Jones returning, along with draftie speedster centerfielder Antoan Richardson, a solid 3b in Mansolino, as well as one of the Cape's best 1B this summer in Mike Baxter returning.

Plus the only pitcher from that staff that led the SEC in ERA that is gone is Sowers. Ryan Mullins, Mike Wagner, and Jensen Lewis were named All-Summer by SEBaseball.com..and both Mullins and Wagner were rated high on BA's pro prospect lists. Plus add Matt Buschmann, Ty Davis, Greg Moviel, and MLB drafties who are returning in Jeff Sues and Ryan Rote...VU still has a solid pitching staff.

Oh, and highly touted leftie David Price is coming a board and is possibly good enough to be a sunday starter in the SEC, this year!

They got a solid offensive catcher to transfer from Duke, and some solid shortstops that might not be as good as Klosterman, but should be capable in the field nonetheless.

Tim Corbin is going nowhere, and it's not impossible to get in school there with either a scholarship or a partial. Still, some players don't seem to mind paying to go there, as even when coach Mewbourne was there, VU still got some very high prospects to sign with the team, and come. One that comes to mind is Mark Prior as well as Jeremy Sowers. Most serious high school prospects in America have to be "rich and good" to get noticed by both college ball and the pros. Traveling teams expenses are not cheap. Still, Dad04, you brought up something a 11 year old said...as well as something said about the school 7 years ago.

Seriously...Vanderbilt's program is headed the way of Rice and a Stanford (though admittedly Stanford is a very high accomplishment).

VU swept through the regional 3-0 beating George Mason, Princeton, and Virginia in Charlottesville by the way. Only 1 Ivy League school did VU face.

Had they not ran into the #1 team in the country in Texas when they got hot, VU would've been in Omaha this season.

Travel baseball is not cheap, but its certainly not as expensive as a year at Vandy. It's a great school, but at $37,000+ per year it is forced to recruit kids with huge SATs and/or from families of serious substance and/or a tolerance for long-term educational debt, AND the skills require to compete in the SEC.

Stanford has been able to do it for a period of time. We'll see if Rice can reload. We'll see if Vandy can keep it going. I hope they can. My son went to Klostermans high school and was plan b, c, or d, not sure which, for the Gators in recruiting Razz.
He interviewed with Auburn to see if VU was indeed serious about baseball...needless to say, they are. Both the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor went to both the regional and super regional, and made it a point to let Tim go to Auburn to then come back and tell them the differences. Tim wanted VU to be able to host a Super Regional one day, and wanted his assistants to be able to stay on the staff. BOTH have been done, and Tim does have a lifetime deal with Vandy now (no, no actual length nor money was announced, but still.."lifetime" does generally mean up to 10 years).

I say if you are a Vandy fan, then you should keep up with the program a little more. Vanderbilt's Chancellor Gordon Gee and VC David Williams (which is the defacto AD) are committed to having VU compete for the Sears Cup (a competition in the overall success of NCAA D1 Athletic departments). And this year VU went from something like in the low 80's or something, to this year finishing in the Top 25.

That's Top 25 of all of the sports, and VU's baseball success was the center of much of that. Since then, not only did they sign Tim Corbin to a new contract, but have also kept their NCAA Final Four women's tennis coach, NCAA championship road female golf coach, as well as other coaches that other "top" schools have came after this summer. If that does spell committed then tell me what does.

Everything you are basing your reasoning on was during the Joe B. Wyatt years. There is a different leadership at VU, and sports is serious here. And especially serious to the people in charge.

Again, Tim Corbin is not going anywhere unless maybe if it's to some huge traditional program like LSU, USC, or Texas. And I don't see any of those 3 or programs similiar needing a new coach any time soon. Plus, who knows how the VU program will be within a couple of years anyways.

And Dad04, there are plenty of baseball players out there that fit that criteria, and most of them are now looking at Vanderbilt as a place to play baseball and build on their future in the sport. We are talking about baseball here..not football or basketball. You don't see many baseball players ruled academically ineligable or fail to qualify like you do in some other sports. Actually the high academics is one reason why some of the guys come to Vanderbilt and one of the reason's why Corbin wants to coach here.

Oh, and if Klosy was plan b, c,d for the Gators, well that plan b, c, d or whatever popped up and had a great 2 games against them in the SEC tourney. As well as being the next Khalil Greene.
