Hi Ladies,
I'm talking my husband into an anniversary vacation to Vegas. He's been once, briefly on business, and I've never been. I'd like to stay at a NICE hotel (don't want anyone fawning over us though) but also want to get a good deal.
So........does anyone have any tips on shows, hotels? I notice there are lots of deals going on for July and August. If we want to go in Sept, should we wait a while to book?

I'm getting excited............ party

Lots of nice hotels. We stayed at Caesar's this time. We'll probably try Paris or the Alladin next time. We prefer being reasonably close to the center of the strip when choosing a hotel.

It can get very, very hot that time of year which is why the prices tend to be lower.

We saw Celine Dion (my wife's choice) which was expensive but very good and also went to see Mama Mia (my choice) which was quite enjoyable.
Mr & Mrs - you really can't go wrong with any of the major hotels on the strip. I've stayed at Caesars, Bellagio, and one other place that I can't remember (I guess my memory is one of the things that 'stayed in Vegas'). Anyway, I agree w/CADad re the weather in summer - it is intolerable. September is a bit better, but still pretty hot. October is when it starts to get nice... Good luck!
Try Travelocity or Expedia.com. Hotels.com usually has some good deals as well. The last couple times my wife and I have gone out, we have stayed at the MGM Grand. You can get some pretty good package deals to stay there. It's just a few minutes from the airport and there are a number of other nice hotels within walking distance that have great shows as well. The New York New York is right across the street. (You have to ride the roller coaster that goes around the building.) Make sure you take the trolley down to the old Vegas strip where the Golden Nugget (a good place to stay) and others are. They have a pretty neat laser show in the street every night. Of course to top it off you have to go up in the Stratosphere tower. Try the roller coaster at the top of the tower at night! If you have time, take the tour out to Hoover Dam. Take the dam tour that takes you into the dam itself. At one point there is a little shaft that you hunch over and walk to the end of. There is a tiny window at the end of walkway you can look out of. The window is actually on the face of the dam about 1/2 way down. Very cool!
Have fun!! We always do.
MrsB ...

And be sure to be downtown one of the evenings (what voicovr referred to as the "old" strip) for the light show. The main casino area street has been converted to a walk-only mall-type environment that has a light show 2 or 3 times in the evenings ... when I last saw it, they had 3 different musical eras and everybody was "dancing in the streets" ... especially to their Mo-Town tribute. Lots of fun ....

If you are very sure of your travel dates and that you will actually be going, Priceline is a great way to save money on hotels. If you go to www.biddingfortravel.com there are lots of tips there on getting hotels and vacation packages. Being on a budget and having to travel for baseball, I've been able to save a lot of money on hotel expenses this way. There are also reviews of hotels on this site, and you are able to choose your "star" level for the hotel on Priceline. ie..if you want one of the better hotels on the strip you can bid 5* etc. I hope you go and have a great time!
Have a great time! I am a complete non-night-person-fuddy-duddy, and I LOVED Las Vegas at night! Bellagio would get my vote--for sure at least go in and look at the Murano chandeliers, the water show outside at night, etc., although I think Mandalay Bay may be nicer and perhaps a bit quieter. Definitely try to do Cirque du Soleil if you can. Just wandering the strip at night is such an amazing experience--from the beautiful to the tawdry! I thought New York New York was really fun too. You might want to skip the roller coaster although I liked that too... Have fun!
