My son is 11 throws 60-65 and is by know means the hardest thrower we see during the season but I would say average for competitive ball is between 55 - 65, with junk ball throwers who toss a little bit slower but are very deceptive. Trust me the boys would rather face a 70 mph fastballer with no off-speed than some of those 50 mph pitchers with deceptive junk to back it up.
hes rite its all about the movement... i would rather face a guy with a 95 MPH fastball that is straight then a guy who only pitchers 75 but it dips and darts and has a good curve, change, and slider... thats the stuff then messes up timing and is harder to hit...if u apply pressure with ur index finger when gripping ur fastball u will lose a little speed but it was move... it depends on how ur throw it and the pressure to how much... but try it out it will help if u can get good movement on ur fastball
