Is it right/wrong/indifferent for a player to give a verbal commit to schools in different divisions...DI, DII, NAIA, JUCO etc...until they have decided which level/school to play at?
I would strongly advise against it. I know you need to look out for your son's best interests, but I would think if any of the schools find out that he made multiple commitments you could wind up with zero.
Think about it from the other side, how would it feel if the school made multiple verbal offers for one roster spot, waited for one of them to accept and then told your son sorry.
The college coaching community is very small and they all talk.
Son is not in that position, but was just curious. He has not decided if he would go the DI route, if offered or the JUCO route. It's the more immediate play time vs. wait and play question. BTW, I am not in favor of the early commit so we probably won't have to worry about this scenario by the time he is ready to commit
That advice would only be good for some players. Certainly not all.
Every situation is unique.
Multiple commitments would be bad. Very bad. If discovered (and it would be), it would reflect very poorly on your son and your family in the coaching world.
