A friends son is a tremendously talented ball player. He has already been singled out by scouts and the like as a freshman. A mid-level D-I school wants him to sign already. The kid really likes the school but, he is the kind of talent that could end up at a big D-I baseball school by the time he is a junior/senior. I told his dad to give the school a verbal committment if he really likes that school that much. This is a non-binding committment that he could change if his stock moves up. Was this a good thing to tell him to do?

If I'm not mistaken a player can not sign anything until the end of his or her junior high school year.

If he wants to give verbal go for it. To me it does not make good sense to give a verbal as a frosh. Far to many things can happen over the next three years. Why put the player in a position where he or she is not good for their word. Way to early IMO!
