MSL.

1. MSL
2. Is it really economical to pay less and not get "seen"?
3. Don't have enough knowledge of TSL and PSL to tell you, but MSL is done mostly for the right reasons and it shows. Don't take that as a shot against the other two organizations, though.

However, you can also do yourself as much good--and more if you are hoping to play up north--spending the fall going to showcases and camps. This is much less economic, however.
I have no experience with any other than the Metro Scout League. I would say we have truly enjoyed the league and the exposure. Many people told me that I was wasting my money putting a Freshman in the league but he has received more than one letter requesting information from MLB teams and most importantly he has had a great time playing with different kids and for different coaches. While the exposure is nice the true reason for a younger kid to play is for the competition and the "fun". We are glad we played. Thanks to Cade and the guys for running such a professional league.

What is the best route for your son next Fall?

1. TSL
2. MSL
3. PSL

1. Where do you get the best Exposure?
2. What is more economical?
3. In your opinion what league is ran the best?

3. PSL - The best exposure comes wherever the scouts show up. I know the PSL had at least 2 scouts last weekend and just as many at the events before that. Economically the PSL was probably a bit heavier on the pocket book simply due to traveling each weekend. As for what league was ran the best, I'd for sure say the PSL. They were always on time. Everyone had big watches and they were checking them often.

Are you answering this question based on your knowledge of all 3 scout leagues or just your experience with the PSL?

How do you figure? Last year the PSL wasn't even around. I have heard nothing about the league. Show me where this has been talked about and I will delete. Sorry but this blog is for information and I think the paying customer wants to know.

The whole subject of "gee, isn't MSL great" has been going on all fall. It's clear MSL serves a great purpose and people are happy with it. Who cares who thinks what is the best. It's great there are several options, all of which must be meeting some people's needs or they wouldn't have players playing.

Well said!

Husker,

Did your son ever do a private lesson in anything? If so didn’t you call to find out who the best teacher was? Didn’t you research before you paid that piano teacher? People want to know what’s best before they pay for something. If I am wrong I am sorry for asking the question.

Absolutely. But I never put a random poll question out on a website like this for a bunch of faceless people I don't even know to answer...not even knowing if they are answering seriously. Making some phone calls is a wise thing. Observing first hand is a wise thing too.

I got a face that goes with a real name.

Can I answer?

Looking at the vids posted for MSL, it appears there were way more guns at MSL games. All of which seems to indicate that scouting is driven by pitching. It was great to play at the different D-1 school fields in PSL. It makes a big difference in hitting stats compared to the 13U fields MSL played on at Craig Ranch. I have to say it would have been nice to roll out of bed and cruise up the CR instead of Houston, Waco, or Nacogdoches.

In your estimation, what would you say you paid this fall for your son to participate in the PSL?

League Fees, travel, etc.

How many college coaches and/or pro scouts did you see in attendance?

Some people choose Democrat, others Republican, some just don't vote. Some drive, others do Dart. Some choose Jesus, some choose a Bald headed Fat dude, some just don't believe in anything. I believe the Yankees might have another good inning in the next 3 games, others might not. HS Baseball makes us choose as well. Isn't it ashame that we all can't just be a part of one big organization, hold hands, sway side to side and all just smile all the time. Even Fall baseball has made us choose. Why, some baseball studs have chosen to play Football, OMG, they could put an eye out. I guess when Fall BB is all done, (PSL does have one more week), we can all agree that it has been a pleasure watching our kids play the Great Game every Sunday. We all couldn't fit into one thing dad gummit, so we all had to make a choice. Remember, a great man once said "That's just the way Baseball go." Go Rangers and Go HS Baseball. When you get home today, after you have made many choices, don't share them. Someone may want to argue with you and make you miss part of the Rangers game. That would suck!

With gas, hotels, meals, and fees, I'd say conservatively it would be somewhere between $1000 and $1500. As for scouts, not sure I could have identified more than 10 at any one game.
My son played this fall over at MSL , and I can honestly say it's the best money we've ever spent for a fall league. Jake plays the summers w/ D Back's Sanders, and is in no way connected w/ DBAT Mustangs . Cade, Shayne and Sam have treated Jake great over the last two MSL seasons. As far as the cost ...$675.00 flat, $200.00 more if you made the AZ. or Jupiter trip (plus travel cost).
Absolutely. I was told last year that we would be wasting time and money putting our Freshman in the league. Two professional scouting information request and 6 college coaches saying they will follow his progress, not to mention getting to play a very good brand of ball tell me it was a good choice. To all the experts I get it a request for information from a scout does not mean a lot to a Freshman but it does get him on the map. And most important he had a blast.
I write this post for parents who are considering MSL in the future, as my son just finished the last weekend of the 16u MSL. Truth is I'm not sure I will know if it was worth the time and money for years to come, as it is unknown whether anyone --other than MSL staff/DBAT folks -- actually saw my son play. There are not many scouts that attend the younger boys games, but they do get evaluated by MSL staff. For those of us whose sons have played high-level tournaments over the years the baseball is hard to watch, as the majority of kids are AA or lower talent and there is some very poor play on the field. However, I can see how it can be helpful for kids to get an understanding of how they compare with their peers. Bottom line: We made friends and got some good contacts out of going to MSL, but there was no developmental benefit from the games, (other than getting used to being evaluated).
Aleebaba,

I would agree with most everything you said in your post. 16U MSL is not promoted as a league that will get the scouts to come out. The 18U MSL is promoted as just that. We had over 160 scouts out this year. The most we have ever had.

The 16U had 40 plus over the 5 weeks. As your son goes into his 16 year old summer I will guarantee you he want have that many watch him all next summer. College and Pro scouts just don't watch 16 year olds that much. Glad you had a good time and remember his time is coming soon where he will be seen.
