We had a player ejected by a base umpire on the last play of a high school game last night for for throwing a helmet. The umpire specifically yelled out "post game ejection" and stated that the player was ineligible for the next scheduled game. I'm hoping I can get a little clarification here. I'm not complaining about the ejection... I'm hoping a valuable lesson will be learned! I have read on the VHSL site that a COACH who gets ejected can not on the grounds during the next game at all, but how about the player? To compound matters... our next game is tomorrow night and it is a double header... Regularly scheduled game AND makeup of a rainout from last week. How do we handle this? 2 game suspension?
Thanks in advance!!!

That's a good question. I know if a player or coach is ejected during a game, he has to leave the dugout and is suspended from the next game as well. Not sure if it being "post game ejection" means he has to sit out the next two games or not. I would think he has to sit out at least the next game.

Maybe someone who is more knowledgeable on this will comment.

Last year Travis From (Chancellor) was ejected during the game at KG and had to leave the dugout (a coach had to leave with him) and I'm pretty sure he had to sit out the next game as well.

Only thing I could find in the VHSL manual is the following from page 75:

The first time a player or coach is ejected from a contest for unsportsmanlike conduct,
he/she shall be ineligible for the team's next contest. A second ejection in the same sport in
the same season carries a minimum two-game suspension penalty. A player or coach who
engages in fighting, biting or aggressive physical contact shall be ineligible for the team's next
two contests. The second incident in which a player or coach engages in fighting, biting or
aggressive physical contact in the same sport in the same season carries a minimum fourgame
suspension penalty. (Note: If the disqualification occurs in the final contest(s) of the
season, the penalty shall carry over to the next sports season for students who are seniors
and to the next school year for underclassmen and coaches.) (See 27-13-6).

Thanks for the quick reply!
I fully expect and stand by the suspension from tomorrows regularly scheduled game. Our Head coach is unsure, AD is clueless and not all that interested in finding out about the 2nd game. I welcome the "life lesson", but want to make sure we are not handing out more punishment than the rules require.

Thanks again!
Yes he is upset with him.... I saw "poles" being run for a LONG time today.. The player also was given the opportunity to stay after practice and sweep out both dugouts, paint all lines, and spent a lot of "quality" time working the field with Head coach. The best part was all poles were run wearing batting helmet on head AND carrying one in each hand. It was awesome to watch. He took all discipline in stride and never complained... As to whether he gets playing time in 2nd game? That's completely up to him... I just wish to be completely sure about the actual rule.
Thanks again!
