I was at the VWC - CNU game today.... I too noticed CNU using quite a few pitchers.....Two of their pitchers have had surgury and are out for the season and another one is/or has been given a medical redshirt due to arm problems...
This, compounded with the fact that CNU lost their three top hitters to graduation could make for a long season for CNU. CNU's coach doesn't use his rotate his pitchers much... He sticks with 3 starters to get him through the weekend conference games and seems to use the others sparingly only in non-conference tilts.
They seemed pretty flat today, not much pitching and definitely not much offense on their part. I noticed when I read the team stats that their #4, clean up batter has the lowest batting average on the entire roster of starters... Sounds like they might need to make some changes in their line up too..
It's going to be a long season for them, I predict. How many pitchers did VWC use today...I didn't keep track.
You are right. CNU was somewhat disappointing. I was quite surprised to see Allred not in the line up on the field some where. I watched the bp before the game and that kid put 3 out of the park and VW field is quite a field to put one out of let alone 3. Allred is a power left handed hitter that has no business sitting any bench. Perhaps the CNU coach needs to take another look at what he's got there. He can only be an asset to that team.
Allred has sat the bench most of the season... Once Harvell decided on his line up, he has deviated from it very little. The only time he substitutes is if the score is out of reach one way or another. I have seen Allred hit the cover off the ball during the fall ball season and at BP, but when he's been put in the few times that he has, he hasn't been too productive. However, when you've sat the bench in the cold for hours, it's sometimes hard to get in and do what you might normally do at the plate. Just my humble opinion.
The first guy who threw for CNU is the 1/2 pitcher on the staff along with the guy who threw the third inning and was throwing 2 innings to get ready for the weekend....losing 3 pitchers due to injuries and the usa south has gone to 3 game series on the weekend so CNU needed to save pitchers for the weekend....CNU's staff has one junior and the rest are sophomores and freshman....CNU had 8 hits but were all with no one on....bats came alive this weekend against one of the top pitchers in the country with 7 runs in 5 innings....very young hitting lineup also....
