Hi, my name's Chris. I recently just got wait listed from my top choice school which is a D3. It is a huge blow to me but there's still a hopeful chance. I have been admitted to four other schools for baseball as well but I'd very much prefer to attend my top choice. This question doesn't really have to do much with baseball and I'm sorry, but what can I do to hopefully get admitted? I was thinking of writing an essay to show my deep interest.

Regardless, Birdman is right on all counts. I would even encourage you to look up the name of the admissions staff member who has your high school in his /her  territory, and call him/her, not just email. (Be sure to identify yourself by name and high school.) Express your strongest interest, and ask what they think you can  do to further your application as a deferred applicant.

Ask him/ her:  Would a new letter of rec, or a new essay help?  Did you send your mid year grades?

Then do a follow up email and express with strongest enthusiasm your desire to attend the school.  If the coach is willing to endorse you, indicate that as well.

I am not sure how you are admitted to 4 other schools 'for baseball.'  Do you have 4 offers roster spots, or four admission letters, or both? So you have a good back up plan which is great.

Colleges use wait lists and defers to 'tweak'  their enrollment numbers. Showing strongest interest, and getting your 'best ever' grades, are two important steps right now.

Good luck and keep us posted.
