I have seen both teams numerous times, and I can assure you that Heath is the better team, but the better team doesn't always win. If you look at the potential matchups for Game 1 and 2, Hernandez is better than Nixon, and Thompson has Schwanke by a nose. Where the teams differ is Hitting and Coaching, Heath by a mile. Regardless, this should be a great series.
I think you should keep your comments to yourself because your not being very positive.I believe all of the boys mentioned are great athletes. I have been around and seen them play for years and wish each one of them a great future. As for as the coaching they are both great. You do see where we both are in the series right? It takes great athletes and great coaches to get where we all are right now. I never say much on these forums and if I do it's always positive because I think that's the right thing to do!!! I guess opinion's are like
a--h---'s everyone has one!!! As for as the boy's you mentioned they are awesome athletes and no matter who wins they all have had a fantastic baseball experience the last four years, something they will always remember and cherish. GOOD LUCK TO ALL and GOD BLESS!!! Teresa Nixon

I didn't interpret rockwallball's comments as being anything other than his take on the matchups. Nothing rude or derrogatory was said about any of the athletes. Matter of fact, you could say that Hernandez and Thompson are better than just about any other 1-2 combination in the state and be correct. As a dad without a horse in this race, I wish both teams the best of luck.
Agreed - nothing was posted negatively - all the post so far have been observations and it is great that both teams have made it this far and I expect nothing but a great series. I still think it will go 3 games with Heath winning, but it still has to be played on the field and we will know in about 5 days who has the better team (for that day).

Lefthanders mom usual response during the year is GO WAKELAND, nothing but a cheerleader,

Should be a great Series.

Have seen each team play multiple times this season. Both teams are well coached and really have hot pitching staffs right now.

Wakeland's playoff defense has been excellent.

Heath's 1-5 hitters seem to have been more effective in the playoffs than Wakeland's. If Wakeland's 1-5 hitters begin matching their regular season success and their 6-9 hitters remain hot, they will win the series in three games.

I don't think this will happen though.

Heath wins in two games and finally makes it to State.

Hope the series is well played and both fan bases and rosters continue to respect the game, as they have all season.
I guess I should be careful in posting my analysis of the match-up, didn't mean to upset the the folks at Wakeland, that was not my intention. I am not a scout or coach, so my analysis doesn't mean beans, but, I thought I would throw a prediction out there based on what little bit I know about the game. Are we to assume that if the DMN makes a prediction they are not being positive? May the best team win. Good Day
The best team or the team with the most talent does not always win (i.e. Rockwall 2 draft picks, 7 or 8 college signs finished 3rd in district and out in the first round). The team that plays the best on a given day wins. Coaching at the high school level is usually what separates the teams when the talent is close. Both teams have great coaching staffs and great talent. This will be fun to watch.

Thus far it appears Heath has gone with J. Hernandez in the opening games, followed by Thompson in Game 2. Not sure how Wakeland will go.

I think the series will go 3 games and the outcome dependent upon who pitches best. The strkezone will be important. A small zone will light up the scoreboard and make these good pitchers struggle. Looking at the box scores, if you can hold Heath to 6 hits or fewer they are beatable (a big IF). At times this season Wakeland has struggled to score runs, but they can get hot. I've never seen a team like Wakeland that can pull out wins even when they are having an off game.

Best of luck to all. Wish this wasn't graduation weekend and I could get out to see the games.

Now Wakeland is faced with their #3 against Heath's #1 in a final game.

What do you think about Heath's strategy with the rotation?

I think it is a no-brainer... you have 2 games to win 1, so you save your best pitcher for an "if necessary" game, knowing the other team is forced to throw their #1 in Game 2. It was a decision that could be made b/c of the game 1 win. Wakeland would have made the same decision, I believe, had they won game 1.

What time is Game 3?
There is no absolute way to do it. I like the strategy. I've used it to my advantage before and I've had it used against me. I've also used the ace in game 2 to "close them out."

The risk in doing this is now Wakeland has life...they've lived to play another day. Regardless of having Thompson on the mound, Wakeland WILL feel like they have a chance today simply because they are still playing. They are a great team, Heath is a great team, should be a great game. Congrats to both teams and coaches for making it this far.
