Ok, this always confuses me -- from the UIL baseball rules....

Total Number of Games.

"No team or student shall compete in more than 2 invitational tournaments plus 19 baseball games or 3 invitational tournaments plus 17 baseball games, in a season, including all games prior to the first playoff game. This shall include non-district and district games. If the district champions have a bye for the first round of the play-offs, those schools may schedule a warm-up game in addition to the game limits. This additional game shall be played on a non-school night with no loss of school time."

crawdad -- I hope your coach had a game-in-hand if he plans on more than one warmup.

And traditionally, the warmups have counted as regular season games. Cool

TimetoStepUp... no "fit" throwing here... just a question: why does a game not count when it was on both teams original schedules to be played 4/13 and was rained out - and then agreed to be played this week?

The fact is PWood is so intent on preserving their perfect record, they insisted the game be termed "practice" or a "scrimmage" or they would not play... and then went out of their way to make the point by not turning on the scoreboard!

The bottomline is in the last two years these teams have played twice and PWood has a total of seven baserunners and one run scored in two games. Maybe next year their coach will improve their schedule and quit dodging real competition. He will learn it makes them a better team, as it has TCA.

I too hope both teams bring home State Titles. I have many friends on the Prestonwood team, love their kids and parents, and wish them nothing but the best. I guess I am just a little wornout by the SPIN and HYPE machine. Roll Eyes

Eek
Ok, I think I'll "moderate" a bit.... Smile

First of all, most of us agree that playing a difficult schedule will benefit a team in terms of becoming district-ready. When it comes to mid-season non-district games, most coaches use them as an opportunity to spread playing time. Does this benefit the team? YES! Do these games make the starters better? Ummm, they could if they generate competition in practice, etc. I think we covered the fact that most schedules are not set by the parents, but by athletic directors....based on any number of factors.

It seems to me that this game was viewed as a "warm-up", which means different things to different people. It sounds to me like PCA approached it as any other game from an offenive standpoint, but not necessarily from a defensive standpoint. I haven't asked for details on the lineups, etc. Perhaps I am simplifying the "strategy".

I'm sure both teams wanted to win. One more than the other? You guys tell me. Smile

Concerning "practice" or "scrimmage", I understand why a team would want to protect a perfect record, especially if the game was viewed as a glorified intrasquad. The fact that it was a rain makeup, well....that was Divine intervention.

Sure, there's "spin" and "hype" and all for many schools. Maybe we should take a poll to see who is considered the best private school in the Metroplex??? Smile

Many of us want both teams to win.

Go Panthers! (huh!?!?)

Our game last night was indeed a past non-district game that had been rained out earlier in the season. Our "warm-up" game is on Saturday.

I think LIONS is trying to figure out how to avoid updating his website.

TCA 13 16 0
PCA 1 3 2

Three TCA pitchers (Parker, Foster, Pair) combine to strikeout 10 PCA hitters.

LIONS is now updating his website to revisit the most famous non-game in the history of TXhsbaseballweb. I know that TCA felt very fortunate and was ecstatic about the rainout so they wouldn't have to play PCA. It was nice, however, for all of us to be able to get together for that short, non-game scrimmage. Wishing all my TAPPS 10A TCA friends and my PCA 5A friends a very Merry Christmas!

Let me guess -- no Hill and no Swagerty? Congrats TCA -- nice to have momentum this week!

I hope both teams bring back state titles.
