All of you Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Iowa and Wisconsin stars....

Watch what is going on with the University of Illinois at Chicago. Knocked off Michigan two days in a row with Ryan Zink from Wisconsin getting a couple of saves so far; and, Haehnel, a smooth lefty, touching 94. The guy on the Team One site was there at today's game and counts Dave as a potential top draft pick.

McDermott and Dee have quite a team. At least 3 stud muffin pitchers from last year with Zink (Gatorade player of the year from Wisconsin for finish the close games) Breath-taking view of Chicago's skyline if you go to their field and look at the city from home plate.

Todd Schultz, one of the best outfielders around these parts, from Hinsdale South, is committed for next year.

Mike Dee, the head coach is a former pitching coach for a long time at the University of Minnesota and has a long history of developing pitchers!

I've known Mike since he played at Benet Academy a long time ago. Class act. Person and Coach.

Beenthere, even though we shouldn't watch out for UIC this year in Nebraska, since we aren't in the Big 10, I guess, I have to agree with you on a couple of points!! UIC does look very good this year and they might have a shot at the Big time this year with their schedule. I have been watching them very closely. Also I totally agree with you about this Zink kid! Wow, potential!!!!!!! I think my son's team played the blazers during PG fall scout leage, the Blazers didn't do as well in that series but I'm almost sure that it was either, before Zink was on the team, or before he grew the other 5 inches!! Anyway he is the real deal now!!

For those who don't know who Beenthere is talking about here is a link to his impressive background

Zink Bio

As I was looking over the roster of the team I had noticed a young man on the team that played on a select team in the local Omaha Area that I was involved with, Great kid as well!! Tom Szalewski!! I felt that it would only be fair to mention and recognize his name and association with the UIC team at the same time!! I'm sure that his parents out our way are proud of him as well!!

N.I.U. is off to a quality start against a high level of competition. here is a team to watch. Like last years game the Flames/Huskies match-up will involve the states best 2 teams. Only program that could argue the point (S.I.U.)just dropped 2 to the Huskies. Oh BTW, Iowa looks like they may never win and Michigan looks brutal. Doubt either situation will change! Give the NW wildcats credit for playing a very good Florida Gator team into the 9th yesterday.
its good to see good college baseball back in illinois, siu hasnt won but they have played tough teams, uic swept a winless michigan team, but UM dropped 30 to 20th ranked florida and 3 to some to be ranked uic...i say soon to be because I think they are going to suprise the canes! nelson gord, 3b for uic does a column on the college site (www.collegebaseballonline.com) he is one of their main players....NIU is rolling as well, they lost santoro but jake blair stepped right in and is doing a great job, and once they get their pitching back on all clynders watch out!

UIC lost a tough one on the road in St. Louis which has to be an awfully messy place to play this time of year, only slightly better than here. wonder if they played in boots. they need to pick it up and win a couple before going to Ark. BTW,that field down at St. Louis if they are still using the one on the illinois side.....IS BRUTAL!
