We have a player who played while wearing eyeglasses since he began playing baseball at the age of 6. He was always a good contact hitter and very good at being selective with the strike zone...

He recently started wearing contact lenses a few weeks ago because he complained that when he wore his eyeglasses...they fog up and he can't see the ball well. Lately he's been strugling with the bat. Can anyone tell me if this is commom when you first wear contact lenses?

Yes - it take time to adjust to the contacts - hand eye is affected - eventual he will do better with contacts - are the contacts the flexible throw aways or the rigged contacts - the rigged ones will move when you blink and you will lose your focus for a second - rigged ones are not the one for sports but the flexible contacts don't have same problem
Coach Jorge,

My son went thru the same thing a few years ago and the problem was the prescription he was given for the contacts was just a little off. A recheck a couple of weeks latter revealed this and after the prescription was corrected he was back to hitting like his old self immediately. Therefore I would recommend the player go back to the Doctor and have his parents explain the situation. There is a big difference in having your contacts tuned good enough to read the board at school and having them tuned to hit a baseball. For example some kids have a slight stigmatism to go along with they’re near sightedness and glasses correct this easily. Usually the contacts only correct the near sightedness and not the stigmatism this would require a special contact that costs considerably more.
