I'm just curious. My son has received emails from two different groups (StudentSportsBaseball.com/AreaCode and Baseball Scouting News)saying they will be doing an article or profile on him and asking him to answer some questions and send them back with a picture. Neither has asked for money or anything. What exactly is this and how did they get his name? He did make BA's Top 300 2007s so could it be related to that somehow? He went ahead and did as asked-didn't see the harm in it! Thanks!

ORmom - StudentSports started running the Area Code Games about 2-3 years ago. The AC games are extremely well respected by college and pro scouts thanks in large part to the founder Bob Williams...sometimes a contributor on this board. I believe Bob is no longer involved...but the AC games still attract hundreds of coaches and scouts and is covered heavily by Baseball America.

Bottom line...I don't see any harm in filling out their profile...probably a good thing actually.

I don't know anything about Baseball Scouting News but they have a nice looking website. boredom

In any case, I don't see any harm in that one either. Sounds like your son is quite a player. Best of luck!

Thanks justbaseball! I knew about Area Code-just curious how they got his info (as well as the other group) They asked different types of questions (not what position,etc.-more short answer type-son thought he had a writing assignment from school!) Of course he was thrilled anyway! Hopefully, he'll get an invite to the tryouts next summer! Thanks again.

Scouts, coaches know way more than we parents think. Entering our son's senior year, some scouts told us they had seen our son pitch 5, 6, 7 times...shocked me since I had never seen them. The "eyes" are all around and you just never know.

But if he's on BA's top-300, thats probably how they found out about him. People really do read those lists.
