Hickory 10, Menchville 1.

Jarrett Mustain opened the bottom of the first with a solo homerun to put Hickory on the board first. Dylan Hudson brought Breden McQueenie, who had walked, home with a ground out in the bottom of the second.  Stephen Polansky hit a 2-run home run in the bottom of the third, plating Mike Polansky who had double in front of him.  In the top of the 6th, Menchville scored an unearned run when #25 singled home #12 who had reached on an error.  Hickory added to its lead in the bottom of the 6th when Mike Polansky hit a grand slam.

NR over Phoebus 15-1 in five innings.  NR amassed 16 hits in just 4 innings.  Dion Jordan continues to warm up after a slow start going 4-4.  Corbin Townsend and Robert Fitzwater both went yard in the game as well.  A very solid performance at the plate, on the mound, and NR continues to be very good defensively.  After committing something like 12 errors or so in the first couple of weeks of the season, (5 of which were in one game against Great Bridge), NR has committed only 9 over the last two months.

NR beats Denbigh 12-2 in six innings.  NR amassed 18 hits in less than six full innings.  That totals 34 hits in less than 10 innings in the tournament.  Needless to say, the bats have awoken.  Corbin Townsend with 2 opposite field extra base hits, and Kieton Rivers with a HR.  A solo shot to straightaway centerfield.  Robert Fitzwater continued his excellent season at the plate with another couple of hits.  As it were, Fitzwater was just named the Conference 18 Player of the Year.  Congratulations!

Now we just have to wait on word from Richmond!  Anybody have a Glen Allen/Hanover report?

Do you know something that I don't!?!?!?!   I was told that the baseball bracket for the 4A South would mimic other playoff brackets of 2015.  Which is to say that Conference 18 is paired up with Conference 20 (Richmond) in the first round.  In the second round, the winner of that would play the winner of 19/17 which is Grafton/Powhatan or Churchland/Lake Taylor/Deep Creek.

In other words, NR is bracketed to face the loser of the Hanover/Glen Allen game tonight!  The No. 2 out of Churchland's conference in said bracket is scheduled to face Grafton, which is the No. 1 out of Yorktown.

Last year the bracket was as you suggest, as NR faced Wilson in the first round.  The bracket in the 4A South Region is on a rotation year over year, similar to the Eastern Region of previous years. This is what I am told.

For the record, I have yet to see an actual baseball pairing, but I've been told numerous times that the baseball bracket is the same as all other brackets for 4A (in an 8 team format).  So, not trying to be a smarty pants...I'm genuinely curious if you know something that I don't!

So...Glen Allen/Hanover has been cancelled and reportedly will NOT be rescheduled, even though tomorrow is an eligible conference tournament date.  As a result, Glen Allen, which also was the conference tournament host, will move on as the No. 1 seed, while Hanover will be the No. 2 from Conference 20.

Therefore, Hanover will travel to take on Nansemond River on Monday, while Glen Allen will host Denbigh, assuming their field will be playable by then.

Further, Glen Allen will seemingly be the No. 1 overall seed, and therefore, have home field advantage throughout the regional, should they continue to advance.

I assume the 4A South Regional pairings are now final.
