First off, props to TPM’s son on his promo to AAA. Temporary or not, this is nothing less than an acknowledgment of his rising status in the Cardinals organization.

My own son saw his very first action as a minor leaguer last night, and it didn’t take long for the game to welcome him to the next level with a little dose of reality.

After a pretty good college season including 70 plus IP without allowing a big fly, one could easily assume that he wouldn’t be able to extend that streak for long when facing hungry professional hitters, right?

Right… so the first batter he faces, he falls behind 3-0 to a big Dominican kid who (you guessed it) gets a hold of a get-me-over FB and destroys the streak with one huge green light swing. LOL.

Funny thing is we had recently discussed this past season’s fortune, with son interjecting the potential for humor if this scenario were to come true. I guess he called his shot huh? Big Grin

spizz - what a wonderful story and thanks for telling it.

I always tell people that in college ball, those kids on the other teams have sholarships, parents, and grandparents who want them to succeed equally as well as people do their own kids. Sometimes you eat the bear and sometimes the bear eats you.

In pro ball, those kids on the other team are paid just like your own. Sometimes you eat the bear and sometimes it eats you. Sometimes here at the high school baseball web, the stories are skewed toward eating the bear. I appreciate your story and best wishes to Sam!

First of all congrats to your son for reaching one of his major goals, pitching pro ball. Not the first (but been a while) and sure not the last of a long ball he lets up. If he can only come close to his recent success of keeping the ball in the park then that is going to be a big plus for him and his success. Glad everyone can smirk at it and think "well that was a good shot." Great moment and story in his young career, best of luck to him going forward.

Being the parent of a hitter, I relate better to a 2-20, but I think they are kinda the same. Frown
I can only say that is the reason they play everyday and Sam has about 70 more games to play.
I am betting Sam will be just fine when September arrives, tired, but just fine.

The great thing is, no matter what - no matter how far Sam goes in baseball, he will have this story to tell. And it isn't the usual story of momentary success. Rather, it's a story of humbleness. So it will be that much more fun to tell for Sam as he grows.

And we all know that even now, Spizzle can tell the story with ease, because we all understand how little that at-bat will have on how far Sam goes in baseball.
