Hello,

My job has me relocating to the Chicago area and I'm looking at two houses. One house is in the West Aurora district 129 and the other is in the Indian Praire (Neuqua Valley HS)district 204. Does anyone have any info on West Aurora's or Neuqua Valley's baseball programs? I haven't heard anything about Neuqua Valley, however the initial feedback I got about West Aurora's program wasn't positive. It was a single source, so I'm keeping an open mind.

Neuqua Valley High School
----------

Jackson,

Just be CERTAIN to get a copy of the mailing address and legal description of the real estate you are considering purchasing and go to the School District office and get a letter from the Super or Assistant Super telling you that your children are in the Neuqua Valley school district.

We've had some horror stories out this way (Southwest suburbs) with parents buying expensive homes thinking that the kids will be going to Lincoln Way East, when, in reality, they are in the Peotone High School district.

Even more confusing to some, I am sure, since the Lincoln Way School District is about to embark on the building of two new high schools, i.e., Lincoln Way North and Lincoln Way West.

Good luck and welcome to Chicagoland. You'll come to enjoy the change of seasons. Who needs all that nice weather in Florida.

Wow! Hey guys, thanks for the info. I didn't think I'd get much of a response being that I posted on a Sunday.

ballyall, There are other elements that will factor into my decision. Academics is high on the list and the research I've done at the Illinois Board of Education website shows that Neuqua Valley has an edge.

I'm in the Aurora/Naperville area this week and I plan to take in a game at each high school (weather permiting). I'll keep you posted. Once again, Thanks!
Update:

What a response! I was inundated with about 50 emails. I can't respond to each one individually, so I'd like to thank everyone for taking the time to provide me with information on these two school districts. The email sentiment echos that of what has been posted on this board. That and the research I have done shows these two school districts are headed in opposite academic directions. I've decided to purchase a home in the Indian Prarie 204 district.

I was able to take in a few ballgames at each school. It's not fair to assess a school's baseball program after just watching a few games. There were a few notable observations: I thought Neuqua Valley did a better job with fundamentals and managed their pitchers well. West Aurora hits well, but they do a poor job of managing their pitchers. I watched a West Aurora game (Fresh or Soph level) and the kid from West Aurora threw a complete game. His pitch count was ~120 and two-thirds of his pitches were curveballs. Allowing a kid to throw that many pitches with that many breaking balls is bad coaching. The research on arm injuries due to over-pitching is well documented. Either this coach doesn't know, or knows and doesn't care. Maybe I'm way off base and this kid is the next Roger Clemens and can handle that type of load.

Once again, thanks for feedback. I think this board is an excellent resource.
Coach Renner is an excellent coach and also a great example of a coach who goes the extra mile for his players. My son played under him his freshman year and the summer following. Even though Coach Renner knew that my son was moving, he still played him through the end of the summer league. He also took the time to talk to his future coach in Texas and my son still talks and visits with him when we are back. He and his staff will always have my son's respect and that is something that not every coach has, no matter how much baseball they know.

Good luck Jackson, you can't go wrong with Neuqua!
