I am posting to ask if anyone has played or knows someone who has played?

I am in a situation (I am a Freshman receiving limited playing time at a So Cal JC.) as a to where I can go. Right now I can either:

A.) Go home, back to Alaska, and do a the Alaska Resident spot on one of the Alaska League teams and maybe get an AB, if that, in the AK Leauge. Which I have no doubt that I will gain from just being a bench player because of how I am.

or

B.) My hitting coach reccomended going and playing in the WCL Portland, he reccomended because he watched a game last year of that league. He said it was pretty great and guys get called up to the WCL teams.

I am just seeking information, does anyone have experience with this development league?

I appreciate anyones help, if you dont feel comfortable posting information here, drop me a PM. Or if you would like any information from me, please drop me a PM!

Bottom line is I see benefit from both, I dont mind bench spots because I have gained a absolutely amazing amount off the bench this spring so far in terms of skill and mental game. I am however hungry for some play time!

Thanks!

AK - I love your attitude!

Go where you will play. The summer time is for playing. You have learned enough from watching.

A quick story, JT's son played American Legion ball his first summer out of college. The next summer he played in the Southern Collegiate League and then earned his way up to the Coastal Plains League. None of those promotions would have happened without playing. He started at a lower level and worked his way up to a very high level. Nothing stopping you from following the same path. Go where you will play and then go out and make a name for yourself all the while looking for that next opportunity. Create a plan in your mind and execute it.

I believe that his son played in the WCL Portland last year. He is great with ideas and details. I suspect that the league would offer some significant opportunities to play. The tradeoffs might be relative level of play, coaching, budgets, travel

The larger WCL is an excellent opportunity as well. The level of play is quite high, the organizations excellent, the league is expanding, the northwest is a great place to spend a summer.

You might also look into socal since you are there. the summer college opportunities there seemed to be expanding in the last few years.

ClevelandDad. jjbaseball, and observer, thank you all very much for you responses!

ClevelandDad, thank you very much, I have been brought up to understand that hard work=success and that you can gain just as much off the bench as you can on the field if you have your mind in the right spot. And then when it comes time for you AB or playing time, you are right there in the game at equal level.

jjbaseball, I will look into this league as well. I have also been told by friend about another pay-to-play that is at Northwest Nazerene University, thins one you live on the campus and this and that.

Observer, I will definently send him a PM and see what information he has. Right now, I got a prompt response from the commissoner of the league and he answered my questions. As for the SoCal leagues, I have no idea where to even begin with trying to get into those leagues. And still SoCal is a long ways for me from home, and vise versa. My parents want to come watch some baseball this summer and SoCal is a pricy endeavour to make 4 or 5 time in 3 months. But if you have any information on them by all means I would appreciate it!
