I realize this may pale in comparison to the Warrior Classic or Sportsbelle, but this is the first thing West has won in my 3+ years of following the team.

West 7 Halls 6

Both teams were trying to save arms for district clashes this week. Sophomore Bradley Childs started for West. He had butterflies early and Jeffrey Lockwood put a ball into the jet stream blowing toward right center for a home run in the 1st. Halls went up 3-0 but West answered with a couple of runs in the 2nd. The game became a see-saw affair. Childs was replaced by sophomore Chase Powell in the 5th. Powell surrendered a homer to Daniel Larson. In the 6th, Halls baserunners reached 2nd and 3rd with one out. Adam Snyder made a rare relief appearance, striking out Lockwood. The curve was in the dirt and West didn't hold the runner at 3rd before throwing Lockwood out. Snyder then got a ground ball to end the inning. West failed to match the score in the bottom of the 6th. Halls was held scoreless in the 7th. The Halls starter (sorry I don't know his name) finally ran out of gas, loading the bases by surrending a single to Taylor Ross, bunt single by Ben Pressley, and then allowing Sam Michalik on. Halls went to a reliever, catcher Black (can't remember his first name). He got David Zeanah to pop up but walked Mike Mayer and Aaron Hookman to give West the win. Black was put in a tough situation.

It's tough that a tournament championship comes down to who's pitching staff has suffered the least. I continue to be impressed with Halls. They have the makings of a fine ball club.

West has won an improbable 6 in a row since returning from Florida.
