That's Venezuela for ya. A friend works the same level in Puerto Rico in the winter. Same thing. You're putting your life on the line out there. Great baseball, but I'd rather have pins inserted into my eyes than work those games.
Up here - a borderline felony.
Down there - the ump must have deserved it.

That's never deserved, that's a chicken**** thing to do. The clip doesn't show what he was mad about, had to have been an earlier pitch.
As Dash said, nothing will happen down there, plus it looked like he was one of the latin crew members.

If I remember correctly, in the Jose Offerman incident, didn't the umpires threaten to walk if nothing was done? I believe it was an American umpire so it may be a little different if this was a Latino one.
But, if they threatened to walk out then, they should threaten now. Despite his nationality, the American ones, along with the Latino ones, should be walking out if he gets to continue. It may not have been as bad as Offerman's, but if a line isn't drawn now, it only gets worse.
I think they should all pull out if Torrealba gets to come back at all. He should serve a lifetime ban as well to show the rest of the league not to do that. Utterly ridiculous that he did it. And, even worse, if he gets the chance to do it again.

And, Offerman may have been prone to violence, but Torrealba is a MLB player. He knows better than to do that. I'd hope he would be done here if he did that.
It may be a first offense for him but I think he should be held to a much higher standard. Not to mention, he is an adult and should be held to a higher standard anyway. I'd give a kid one offense before a lifetime ban.

The WORST thing is he wasn't immediately tossed. In fact, I'm not sure if he was tossed at all. I wonder if that's what the huddle is about. "Well, he didn't really punch you in the face, it was more of a push. Maybe we should just warn him."

It appears he was tossed before he hit the umpire..
He was ejected prior to the punch.
Oh. Well that's very different. Never mind.
Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas.
Yeah, he got tossed quick. If you watch closely, the umpire bangs him, he turns and as the camera is swinging away you see the umpire starting his toss mechanic. I think the conference was just a chance to let the PU get his head in the game. I believe the only American was the second base umpire, he in AAA.
Suspended for 66 games.
Got a link? I am shocked they actually did something.
