You've already hit on some of the main points, good school, but Due West of What? ;-) For a small DII school they have put together some very good recruiting classes the last few years. They've also had some very good seasons. They seem to bring in a lot of kids. I'm not really sure how they do that, unless they come up with a lot of academic money. They seem to redshirt a good number of kids. I've known several kids that went there and they seemed to like it pretty well, but I never got into a lot of details with them.

Overall talentwise I'd put them ahead of small D1's like PC, probably USC Upstate (though that will change), and UNC Asheville. Probably not far behind Wofford. Comparable DII's would be Francis Marion and USC Aiken.

True enough about Due West being in the middle of nowhere. The college literally is the town. The program is on the way up, but it does go through a lot of players. Roster numbers go up into the 60s, and a lot of kids come and go after a year or two. They hit lots of home runs. The coach preaches that and favors power hitters. Watch them take BP and it's one ball after another getting launched. If you son's a singles hitter, he may get lost in the shuffle. And if I remember right, the field has no lights so all day games. But it is a pretty setting.
Don't think the program is quite at the USC-Aiken or FMU level just yet. The Carolinas Conference is solid with Mount Olive and Belmont Abbey, but not quite as deep as a couple of the other D2 conferences around it.
The "Due West of What" comment was from a bumper sticker they used to sell at Erskine, probably still due. But it's not that far to Greenville if you get bored. Looking at last years stats, they split with Aiken and lost 7-2 to Francis Marion, so I think it is fair to say the programs are comparable. BUT, one major difference between the programs is Erskine signs a LOT more S.C. kids than either of the other two schools.
