It's been really crazy in our home these past few weeks. Mike finished up his college career at Mount Olive this past May, Conference POY, All American 2nd Team, all this all that. Draft comes and no team calls his name. We hear from a few Independent Teams and last Sunday Mike gets a contract from the Joliet Slammers of the Frontier League, he's thrilled to be playing again. Monday he makes the 14 hour drive to Joliet, has his physical on Tuesday, signs his contract and gets his uniform. Boards the team bus to Evansville for a Wednesday DH. Before the game Wednesday he is told by the team that he won't be playing as his contract has been picked up by the KC Royals and he will be headed to Burlington, NC but not until the team gets back to Joliet.

At 4am Friday he gets to the hotel in Joliet, sleeps 4 hours then begins the 14 hour drive to Burlington. Saturday he signs his contract with the Royals but can't play until all his medicals are completed. He wears his pro uniform for the first time. Sunday he is activated after a very very long week and is back on the bus for a 6 day road trip. Now he just has to wait his turn. by the tone of his texts, he's tired and cranky.

we are so very proud of Mike and thrilled that we will be in NC to see him play next weekend!

I LOVE this story!  Congratulations!  Another player to bookmark!

A friend told me that there would be quite a few college guys getting opportunities after the draft.  You don't have to be drafted to play the game at the next level.

I would be cranky too with all of that happening in just a short period of time, he will have to get used to it, this is baseball at the pro milb level!

Have a GREAT TIME!

This is exhilerating news, Coach Merc! Congrats to your son! Dizzy-ing, isn't it! And cranky is just part of it, for awhile...til he gets into a semi-settled routine! (yeah, right!! lol) Things come at the very last minute, then this frenzy of activity...that's just the way it is. He'll roll with it!

Good thoughts & well wishes going his way!

Hello Mike -

Just seeing this now - Congrats to Mike !  Erik and I went to watch Jamie Schultz's starting debut at the Joe Bruno stadium in Albany - another WY Clipper playing Pro ball.

Erik is starting season 2 at St. Rose ... I got to 40 of his 49 games last season - plan to do the same this year.  It only happens once - right.

Take care
