So what are your thoughts / observation be of this picture? I know it is only 1 picture but what do you see or can you tell from this?

My take is his lower half looks good but his upper looks like he should be back more. His hips look good but his upper body should be more vertical. It looks like he was chasing forward with his upper body. Also looks like he is dipping his back shoulder a little.

We have been working on trying to stay back and hitting balls to LC and LF- better to be late than early. Look outside/away and react to the ball inside. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. He is 10 years old - THANKS!

My suggestion is to let him have fun and play the game. He does not need to be "coached up" at this level imho (i.e., worried about how he is reacting to the ball or what his upper or lower body looks like). Develop a love for the game in him and let him figure some things out on his own. This should not be about "work" but how to have "fun."

Welcome to the hsbbweb btw. As some of the other posters have pointed out, our general forum is for high school players (freshman team and up) and above. The best forum for a 10 year old parent asking about 10 year old kid-type issues is the pre-high school forum. Obviously, if you have questions about other levels of the game they are fine. Thanks for your consideration.
kaos,

Welcome to HSBBW.

BOF is a pretty funny guy and probably didn't mean to come off sounding quite as harsh as he did.

I enjoyed the photo, but I don't know enough to tell you what might need work. I would have missed it in the hitting forum. I have to laugh at the size of the number on your son's back. That thing is huge! Good thing it didn't go into double digits.
The swing looks pretty good to me. To many times parents/coaches of kids this age put to much emphasis on all the things your asking about. The main thing is to let these kids have fun. My advise to you is to tell him to look fastball adjust to the off-speed stuff and just flat out react when he sees a pitch he wants to hit. Period!! And by trhe way lots of soft toss doesnt hurt either. Remember let these kids have fun.
