Situation: Awarding Bases
Game Situation NF Rules:

No runners on base, 2-2 count on the batter, batter swings and misses, the ball glances off the catcher, and the ball rolls out of play. Where do the umpires place the batter-runner? Why? If the plate umpire places the batter-runner on the wrong base, what should the base umpire do? How might it be best to get involved to get the play right?

What rules apply and what generalities can you share to help other umpires better understand how to best award bases and cover baseballs going out of play?

The BR is awarded first. The coach is going to argue that he shhould get one base for the DTS and one for it going out of play. You only get one, not the collective award.
The thing to remember is one from the rubber, two from the field. It gets complicated when you have to remember TOP,TOT or TOI. When ball is knocked out of play by the catcher 99% of the time it will be from a pitch. The diference is when it goes off the F2, stops and then he knocks it out. This is asumming balls from the pitcher not a ball from the outfield. That will always be two bases TOT.
As to a PU missing the award, the BU can come in and talk and make sure you get the award correct.
Mr. Taylor is correct.

Remember, there is no award for a dropped third stike. The runner may, at his risk and under the proper conditions attempt to obtain first base.

Had he done so in this case, there would be no further award since the award for the pitch going into dead ball territory is one base from the Time of Pitch.
