My name is Tim Naughton I am from Houston Tx but i am currently a 17 year old junior at boarding school in Ohio. I am 5'10 150 lbs, I play shortstop and this year my teams record was 5-10 Frown but in the 15 games i had 4 errors. I batted 4th in the line up the whole year and i hit .385 with 24 RBIs and 12 doubles. I just dont really know what to do or where to start to try to play some ball in college and get noticed by scouts. If you could please give me some advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

Tim - welcome to the hsbbweb Smile

My advice is to first start by reading ALL the links and articles that are on this site and following that advice. There is a recruiting tips and recruiting timeline that will provide a strategy for you to get "noticed." Basically, you need to go to respected showcases where there will be college recruiters. That is the only guaranteed way. High profile summer teams and tournaments also get scouted but you can never be sure who might be there at any given time. Try and maximize your exposure this summer and you can find a home at the next level. Again, please read all the links, articles, tips, and suggestions. YOU need to do the work. No one is going to call you up and offer you a scholarship based on your stats. Coaches only recruit what they can SEE in front of them. My favorite analogy is buying a car. Would you buy one just from reading a newspaper article or post? I think you would want to see it, check it out, drive it, and talk to the seller before purchasing it. Coaches are the same way with ballplayers.

Tim, look up the schools you are interested in on-line and surf the sites until you find the names of the head coach and recruiting coordinator for each school. You can try calling them directly to express your interest, but you might have better luck emailing them. (Oftentimes, their email address is listed next to their name.) Tell them about yourself and your accomplishments and make sure to give them your phone number. (They can call you only after July 1 is you are a 2007 graduate.) If they are located in Texas or Louisiana, let them know about the camp in Houston you'll be attending. Perhaps they'll be able to come and see you there.

Your main goal should be to quickly rehab from your surgery so you can get back on the field. Whenever you are finished with rehab, sign up for a Perfect Game showcase to get seen. For advice on which showcase to attend, call them at (319) 298-2923 and they will be more than happy to advise you.

Good luck!
