I work real hard, we just got a new coach that played college ball, and i'v been working hard lately. Baseball is my dream, what are some things I need to do to prepare and stuff to try to become a pro athlete or division 1?

Welcome to the HSBBW. TRHIT always gives good advice. Let me add a little more details about one thing he said and he said it TWICE so you can bet it's important. most importantly keep working to improve your game --- Being a young man you probably don’t have a lot of experience setting goals and working to achieve those goals. Let me give you some common sense advice that works very well in helping you achieve your baseball goals. There is an old saying that “A goal without a plan is a dream”. So, in order for you to reach your goal you need to come up with a plan to improve your game and your “baseball worth”. There are many different aspects of a complete player and the first step might be for you to understand what those different aspects are. Every one wants to immediately focus all their attention on talent but talent is just one aspect of getting a baseball scholarship. Grades, attitude, work ethic, being responsible --- as you learn about being a complete player you will soon understand this list has many lines. Next you need to work yourself up a plan that will “force” you to dedicate yourself to getting that scholarship and possibly getting drafted. You actually need to write this down on a sheet of paper and follow through. I might add that it’s always good to have a “partner” that is there as an inspiration and a reminder of the commitment you made to yourself. I was my son’s partner most of the time and while I didn’t lift weights, run sprints or shag fly balls I did what I could. (soft toss mostly) Big Grin. Doing all this will really inspire you to reach your goal. It also allows you to monitor your progress which is proof that all this IS actually working. Remember ---PLAN your WORK and WORK your PLAN!!!

Just make sure you focus on the things you can control. Set goals such as...

1. Work on reducing your 60 time by .1 of a second in the next 6 weeks.

2. Try to gain 10 lbs of muscle over the summer.

3. Long Toss 3x a week...

5. Hit everyday...

If you do things like this the college scholarships and draft will take care of themselves. You can't control what pro scouts and college coaches think of you, all you can control is your game.
