This was last weekend, HS playoffs with a four man crew and 3rd game.

We're in the field, 2 outs, R1 at 2B, ball hit to 3rd and throw makes 1B stretch for the ball. Call was out, we leave the field, they take the field as opposing coach contests the call. Call is overruled and they put R1 on 3rd.  Which I think is the right call.  Opposing coach comes back out, they meet again and they award R1 home. What ruling would allow them to award the extra base?

10-2-L, although as you've described the situation, the U's judgement is highly suspect.

Not only is the judgement to award home suspect so is the judgement to overturn the call.  With 4 man, U1 is always in A and should see the pulled foot or not better than anyone.  I wouldn't go for help on this one.

exactly....and for the life of me I dont see how putting umpires into a system that they arent familair with is better than a well executed 2 man game.......

LBB what did R2 (the runner from 2nd) do?  Did he continue running while?
I can hear coaches argu, er, ah discussions, "if they (the D) can appeal up til they leave the field then by runners can continue running.

Be hard to argue.

Woulda loved to be a fly on the mask to hear the exchange between U1-U2.

Obviously U2 didn't say, you ain't changing this one, cause I had it all the way and that's that.

As NoU points out, hopefully a 4 man U1 would never need help on what sounds like a pretty routine GB.

But if he did hopefully he'd go there first.

To not go for help and then get overturned, that had to hurt.

Obviously at least two folks saw something U2 didn't.

Best that I recall, R2 rounded 3rd as the call was made and he handed his helmet to his coach.  It wasn't until after HC talked to 1st base coach that the appeal was made. It was a 10 minute discussion with us waiting to hit and them warming up. I've seen plays over turned but to award an extra base to the offense when the defense stopped playing on the out call with the ball in the IF.  Basically, the ump's put us in a worse position assuming the call was safe and we have the ball in the IF.....R2 isn't going to attempt to run home.  If the appealed play was in the OF with R2 running from 2B then I would agree with the call to award home.
