What can a single parent do, when the time comes to be able to send a child to a showcase when its not affordable for them.

Ask if there are any scholarships available from the individual showcase organizers. You will never know unless you ask. Good luck.
When my son attended a Perfect Game showcase, the invitation included information about how a player might ask local businesses or individuals to help sponsor his expenses for the event by making donations directly to the player's family.
MN-Mom nailed it and TR is probably going to tell you the same thing, unless his organization has some other program. Sponsorships are the way to go. It'll take some effort, nothing's going to get handed to you, but there are ways to get it done.
