No one is picking Rookie of the Year, where Henry Bamgartner hurts his arm and suddenly throw 99? Or Air Bud, with the Golden Retriever (or is that basketball)?
"Cobb" with Tommy Lee Jones "Eight Men Out" "The Fan" with Robert DiNero and Wesley Snipes "Fear Strikes Out" with Anthony Perkins of Psycho fame. The story of Jimmy Piersall. "Mr. Baseball" with Tom Selleck "Mr. 3000 with Bernie Mac "The Stratton Story" with James Stewart. The story of White Sox pitcher Monty Stratton who severly injured his leg in a hunting accident. "Pride" of St. Louis" with Dan Dailey. The story of Dizzy Dean was an Academy nominee for best picture. "Pride of the Yankees" with Gary Cooper. No explaination neccasary. "The Jackie Robinson Story" starring Jackie Robinson. It was really toned down. "The Babe" with John Goodman. Nah "The Babe Ruth Story" with William Bendix. William Bendix was actually a batboy for the Yankees when he was 15 years old and Babe was still playing for them. Most of the movie was non-factual. Babe was present at the premeire, but became ill because of his cancer and had to leave early. He died less than a month later.
Tom Hanks' performance in "A League of Their Own" is so brilliant that it should be shown in every acting class. The scene where he reminds the RFer to work on hitting the cutoff man is as funny as any scene in any movie. Also where he pegs the little obnoxious bat boy with a glove right in the face is priceless.
