I had a nice conversation with a young dad of a 13 year old "select" baller the other day at my son's game---he had brought his son to watch a young man on our team that has been working with his son on his hitting skills. He asked me what my opinion was on the difference between D-1, D-2 & NAIA level of talent ----I have watched many levels of baseball in my life time and seen a lot of equal talent in everyone of them. What would you tell this man?

From having watched different levels of D1 and D3 I'd say it's the speed of the game. The velocity of the pitching, the speed the ball comes off the bat, the speed of the runners, the speed of the fielders to go get it and the velocity of the fielder's throw. I watched some ranked D3 teams play last year. The quality of ball was good. But it was obvious the game was played at another speed.

My son and I watch Big East and A10 ball in our area. When I took him to see a ranked ACC team he was shocked how consistantly they hit the ball that much harder.

To take it to another level a friend's son played in his major college program's alumni game before heading for spring training. He hit three doubles. He said in AA ball two would have been caught effortlessly.
