now that district play has started who are the teams to beat and who is their key players:
Oscar Smith is a decent hitting ball club but not too solid in the infield and western branch is solid all around but very beatable.
Is the southeastern district up for grabs.seems every matchup is equal throughout the whole district

bsbll04,
I think you've hit the nail on the head. Although its early in the season there seems to be a lot of parity in the Southeastern district this year. The usual suspects (GB, WB, Hickory, IR & DC) will be in contention, but OS, Lakeland & NR seemed improved over last year. So it may be a dog fight for all teams in S/E this year.
Braves blew a 5-0 lead vs Hickory at home last night as the Hawks scored 3 in the 7th to cap a big comeback. For some reason, Hickory coach Gedro's name NEVER comes up whatsoever on this site. Would seem he had the upper hand on IR coach West last night, with skillful maneuvering after Hawks starter didn't get out of the first inning. Not sure how the Southeastern will shake up as yet, but we should find out soon enough.
Philler,
I'll run with the ball on this one. I think that Coach Gedro doesn't receive a lot of respect from some, because of the amount of talent that has come through his program without a district, regional or state title. Although his style of coaching is different than some coaches & like all parents (who've never made a mistake on the other side of the fence) I sometimes disagree with some moves. I can truly say that he was very good to both of my sons that played for him & that's all I as a parent could ask for.

As far as the IR vs. Hickory thing. Sometimes some teams just have other teams number. Look at the opposite effect that GB has on Hickory. Don't worry about IR too much Coach West's kids will battle all year & when the dust settles will probably be right in the mix for the district championship.
