As fans we do not know the whole story and even more important is we don't know the inside "dirt" of MLB.

As far as a player is concerned he had better look in a mirror and at his teamates before passing judgement or retaliating as the allegged percentage of players that have used steroids at one time or another during their career goes up daily.

No question it is wrong, and these incidents hopefully will lead better testing and penalties. However, the line between being a good baseball player and a professional player is thin and the competitive nature of any professional sometimes superceeds intelligence. That mindset is probably why they do what they do. Regardless of what they say; deep down; winning is everything.

Pitchinside, No defense for them on my part. The roids are illegal, it is a form of cheating, and they should be punished. A corked bat and a pitcher doctoring a ball is also a form enhancing abilities. My point was a competitive athlete performing in the most competitive arena MAY go to the extreme in order to prevail. Whether you like it or not it is the nature of the beast. When a specific juice list is banned another synthetic will come on board to take its place. This will be a never ending saga of medical technology kicking our a$$. We, meaning mankind, created this moster, it is now up to the powers to be to control it. The days of speed in the lockeroom are over, pandoras box is open to the real stuff now. An old football cliche seems to apply to the roid surge "You can't stop him, you can only hope to contain him".

As far as not knowing the whole story. It seems to me most of us stood on our thrones asking for Consecos head when he came out with his allegations because we thought we knew it all and he was lying through his teeth. Now many of us are enjoying our crow fixed many ways at every meal.
Palmeiro will be booed until he hits the next HR. All will be forgiven, especially if it is a walk off.

The movie Gladiator had a central message, make the mob like you, and you will be rich and wealthy and thrive.

The mob has taken over baseball, as long as the gladiators make them happy, steroids will be tolerated and baseball will thrive.

The golden era of baseball like that of the 1950's is over. Now we enter into a new era the 21st century with artificial enhancers. It won't be long before the bionic man is created with artificial limbs that can hit the ball 600 feet.
I am an O's fan for many many years and have always admired Raffy; he seemed to conduct himself as a gentleman on and off the field and his swing is as sweet as I've ever seen, anytime, anywhere, in any era.

Having said that, what I wish for will never happen: that he tell the whole story, then retire from baseball permanently.
