I was wondering what i should do in terms of getting me better exposure. I am currently a junior. I started varsity as a sophmore last year made all conference and ended my season hitting 27/64 .422 ba 22 rbis struck out only 3 times. Then went on to my summer ball 23/49 .469 ba 4 strike outs 15 rbis. I am a steady left fielder with a cannon as a arm. Im now standing at 6'0 160 as a junior. My coaches from both teams are telling me they are contacting colleges all the time but i havent gotten any letters from colleges so at this point im confused on whether to just go the "do it yourself route" and contacting colleges by my self would this be bad or not. Please give me any other options on getting well rounded exposure. The reason why im so confused is there is other kids that are complete s__t to say the least not tryin to sound cocky that have gotten letters from d3/d2 baseball schools and its just frusterating hearing them brag during school.

Joe - here is a link. Please read every article under this link including the recruiting timeline. There are also dozens of other links where each link includes dozens of other links or articles.

http://www.hsbaseballweb.com/recruiting_tips.htm

My specific advice to you is do it yourself. You are responsible for your own recruiting. Make it happen and it will. Never wait around for the phone to ring. Start contacting coaches of interest and see what they might have to say. The best advice I ever got was coaches do not recruit stats. They only recruit what they can see.
ok ill check that link out. so when im contacting coaches should i contact them by phone or send them letters with video clips. and with the video clips my dad tells me they dont like them edited cuz then ppl could just take there best cuts at the plate and throw it in a video. im considering just taking a video of me taking tee work and then some bp un edited.

You can do both. If you can put your videos up on youtube, you can just e-mail them the link. Show side angle bp and perhaps a couple shots of bp from behind homeplate. If you have some decent game video where you are crushing the ball or throwing someone out or stealing a base, show that too. Make it direct and to the point. A couple of minutes of video highlights and BP ought to do.

joe - I would love to see your video! You can even post your video on this site if you like and have many members offer you suggestions before sending it out. Either way would love to see it.

My son has played at Midpark High School in summer ball. That school is neat because it is right in the middle of a neighborhood. He also played fall ball against a kid named Rob Wendzicki who went on to play at Eastern Michigan.

Dear Mr. Shmo:

I strongly suggest that you begin to use the English language as if it were important to you. At some point you may want to impress a coach, a college admissions officer or potentially someone from the HSWeb community.

You are making it clear that you can “text message” with the best of them. If you want to play baseball in college; you will need to start impressing people with your intellect as well as your baseball ability.
My son is also a junior. What he has done is made a list of about fifty colleges he would like to attend. It's a cross of baseball and academics. He has his most likely he has the ability to play there programs, his reach programs if he progresses significantly as a player and his fall back programs if his talent has been misjudged. Sometimes it's not about talent. Sometimes it's about the team needing, or not neededing talent at a certain position.

He filled out the online recruiting forms for all these programs. He emailed the coach of every program asking what showcase events they will be attending in 2010. He asked if they have camps for exposure. With each program he's listing any person we know (baseball or otherwise) who may have contacts within the school from a baseball or alumni standpoint. He did a couple of showcases this past fall that got him on some radar screens.

Soon we'll put together a business plan of how, where, when and how much it will cost to get proper exposure in the right places in addition to the exposure his showcase team will provide. Basically a player has from the end of the high school season to about the first of November of his senior year to gain exposure.

Dear Mr. IVLBB Apparently that is not the case at the moment. I am just trying to get quick replys on the topic. If I were contacting a college I wouldn't be using this "text message" lingo that you speak of. If you wanna talk about english class I have a 98% in English College Comp. I would type like this all the time but it will just take forever. I do this enough in my english classes.

RJM thats some awesome advice im going to have to try that out. yes my dad is signing me up for numerous camps from wat i hear kids are getting good exposure from these and ill be attending some pro showcases in my area also. my dad says that your junior year is the most important because u get exposure and follow up scouts to see u as a senior when ur in ur prime for highschool ball

Joe,

First things first. I would suggest that you pay close attention to what ILBB has written. This forum has all kinds of good people who are very knowledgeable and will help guide you so that you can get where you want to go but first you need to understand that people here don't communicate like they're making arrangements with their buds to go to the local Taco Bell.

Whether you are aware of it or not, one very good reason why you work so hard to get a 98% in English class is so that at some point in your life you can communicate effectively with adults who could be of help to you.

I understand these etiquette comments seem meaningless but they are not.
On top of what igball said and this is very important: Be very careful what you say and write here. You will be very suprised when you find out who reads these posts. When you respond to someone, several hundred people will read that and JUDGE you by what you said. A coach we respect reminded rightyshortstop "everything counts." Its a test. Be a professional in everything you do and you will make it.
Joe, I too was thinking the same as ILVBB at least we know for sure you aren't an adult posing as a young baseball player, right.

My piece of advice is communicate quickly with all programs that send you letters, and questionaires. And work hard on those grades, if you aren't sitting over 3.2 GPA, forget D1. Do a little research on programs you might be able to afford, and look over their rosters to see if they recruit kids like you, and from your area. Good luck.
Joe, the only reason for giving you the advice is to help you shine in all areas(BTW be careful of the use of your and you're). Coaches learn alot about a player from how he posts. Your ability to accept this advice will show something called "coachability", a prized character trait among prospects.

There is a "find" button on this site that is very useful. By cruising around, you'll find quite a bit of information on your next steps.

BEFORE I POST I AM NOT SPAMMING, JUST GIVING HIM ADVICE!

Hey Joe, I am in a very similar situation of your own. I am a sophomore, but unlike your coaches mine haven't helped me much(or better yet haven't admitted they have helped me much so I am not sure if they have or not). There are many ways to do the recruiting process by yourself. Get on websites similar to HSBBW. Others are Checkswing.com, berecruited.com, takkle.com, just to name a few that I am a member of. On checkswing, you can communicate with more former or current MLB or MILB players than on HSBWW(sorry guys, not trying to insult anyone at all or the knowledge you guys have here.) A few college coaches are also on checkswing and are more than happy to help. Some of the similarities the 2 sites have, many players can post videos and get many responses. berecruited.com has many coaches and is a pretty helpful website. I have gotten some e-mails from D1 coaches from that site. You can get a free account or "Pro" type account which cost money. I have a free account and still have interest from some schools. Takkle.com is useful for really one thing honestly when it comes to recruiting. The association with NCSA really helps, but the RecruitMe Sheet is great. my link is at the bottom to check out the format of it.

When your trying to do the videos on youtube, try and get as many videos that are good as possible. If you get multiples, use this website to throw them all together. http://embedr.com

Like someone mentioned above, fill out recruitment sheets, they work well. I've gotten a few e-mails back by just filling out a recruitment form. Go to showcases to get some exposure from colleges.

And last but not least, when you are talking on here use good literature not only for the adults, but college coaches are on here. Remember that.
