My son has been receiving interest from several D1 schools, they are sent emails asking him to attend their " prospect camps", he is currently a junior, we attended the camps and he was one of only two juniors at the camps, they seemed to pay more attention to the seniors and said the juniors should come back next year, was this a waste? we are beginning to think so, should you wait until the summer before your senior year?

Also, are these prospect camps a good idea at any time? Some HS and Travel coaches say you should have the colleges come watch you play if they are interested?

My son went to a prospect camp in October of his junior year. The head coach pulled him over and said that he liked what he saw. So, we went to another camp in February at the same school. The recruiter was very pleased to see that my son was showing the follow up interest. My son had a nice junior season and received a 50% offer from the school in the summer. Throughout the year after attending the first camp, my son received frequent communication from the recruiter. Once every two weeks, a letter with just a motivational phrase was sent to my son. This indicated that they wanted him to keep their school in mind throughout the process.

The point is that it is not too early to go to a prospect camp. The key is to keep the communication going after the camp and you will be able to determine the level of interest from the school.

In answer to your second question, you can ask a coach to come see you play, we did, and they will if there is an interest. If they do not know anything about your son, you may need one of your coaches to communicate to them why they should come out and see him play.
