where can I find some good info on the impact players in college baseball this year? All I see on pre-season Baseball America is draft previews(they call it college previews.). I was wondering if Woodard was ever going to get some love when UNC's #2 and 3 guy were pre season all-america's and he's better than both of them. They even had a player from Cali with an era of nearly 10 as a all-america. When answering this don't give me who has thrown 95 with 15 innings last year. I want to know who has been there and done that at the college level. If I wanted draft preview I would buy prospect plus.

Bigstick,

This is kind of an in your face post so I'll give you an in your face answer. I looked at the picture on Baseball America today and was kind of shocked at what I saw. Woodard was the healthiest looking of the three and appeared like has been working out harder than either of the other two. Based on performance, I agree, Woodard is their best pitcher. They may be "projecting" the other two higher, but my money is on Woodard as being the "best" major league prospect. Woodard reminds me of Zach Duke. All he does is get them out.
WHOA, guys!! LOL!

I stumbled upon this thread doing my usual, nightly, "catch up;" thinking I was going to be led to yet another pre-season prognostication...and I nearly fell out of the chair!

As much as I genuinely appreciate your kind assessments concerning Robert, I feel compelled to jump in here and stick up for his teammates. Robert would be the first...and the loudest...to join me in saying that EVERY DROP of ink that's been used praising Andrew Miller and Daniel Bard is deserved; and that the rigors of the last two years have matured them immensely on the mound. As a result, I have no difficulty whatsoever projecting them into having very special collegiate seasons this year. So, I agree with "BA's" assessment that they qualify for special attention in their college pre-season projections.

On a separate, but related, note, someone e-mailed me today and commented upon how comfortable they appear with one another. I'm happy to report that, in this instance, the camera caught the truth. Great friends off the field and in the clubhouse, each of them is quick to volunteer how much they've benefitted from knowing the other two. Like so many of your own sons, they've made friends for life through their teammates.

Finally, I hope you'll allow me to express a heartfelt thanks for the many supportive comments that continue to come our way from the HSBBW "family." This is a very special place because of all of you.
One more thing...about Andrew's socks. The "BA" photographer told them that they were posing for a "waist-up" shot. Therefore, little/no attention was given to the position of the pants legs.

Naturally, it gets printed as a full length view! What else is new?

I've already sent word through Robert to Andrew that he may have unwittingly started a new fashion trend on the mound. Then, maybe not, also.
Tar Heels' Woodard Joins Preseason All-America Ranks

Charlotte junior becomes third UNC starting pitcher to capture preseason accolades.

Jan. 4, 2006

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Junior right-hander Robert Woodard became the third North Carolina starting pitcher to earn preseason All-America honors when he was selected to RosenblattReport.com's third team Monday. Woodard joins fellow starters Daniel Bard and Andrew Miller, who was named to RosenblattReport.com's second team, as preseason All-Americas.

Prepster,
Your post is proof that you are one fine southern gentleman and DAD! I did see your son pitch and he is a mighty fine pitcher. DK was also impressed. Sometimes the ones who go about their business quietly not worrying about the hoopla are the ones who are truely the winners!

Teammates truely caring for one another and their team success as well as personal ones is what TEAM is all about.

"Blake Wood!"

Can't thank you enough, Moc1, for clueing me into that!

Georgia Tech's top returning pitcher, All-Atlantic Coast Conference in 2005, Highly successful pitcher last summer for the Cape Cod League's Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, "Collegiate Baseball" Pre-Season All-American...a TERRIFIC pitcher!

Here's wishing him the best of seasons, BIGSTIK. He has EVERY reason to expect one.

good morning all & welcome bee BigStik beeto hsweb

suddenly the board seems in the midst of a takeover by "pitcher parents" hyper

CD, there can be other subtle inferences in his screen name, but we won't go there nono

I too will agree those preseason lists can drive ya crazy
the upside seems the motivation factor coupled with the abilty to stay loose & perform
based on YOU and your TEAM, not pressured by some list's high expectaions

eh - we were picked to finish #3 in ACC last yr,
but were regular season AND tournament champions

BigStik, did they ever find that "boa" lost in the visitors bull pen?

it was no big deal when they leaned the stadium was "mouse free" dazeda
it was an annoyance when "pets disappeared" dozey
it was still a bit annoying when "visitors MIF's disappeared" Eek

Well - we'll have the grounds crew look into it AFTER THE SEASON jumping

"Smelling salts," my eye!!!

You post an archived pic from the Georgia Tech zoology lab and spout off something about there not being any mice at Russ Chandler, and I'm supposed to be lunging for the smelling salts?!! Instead, I was travelling; a condition which at least one of my friends decided to exploit!

In the meantime, if you'd intended to infer that there was something in the GT dugout that we should fear, I didn't see anything that the group that'll be in the dugout when we're there can't handle. ...and, of course, you, BIGSTIK, and I will be comfortably ensconced in the plush confines of the Players' Families' Skybox, far from such concerns.

And, by the way, I'd like to add my congrats to Andy, as well...along with the same sort of comment that bbscout applied to me recently...something about talent and looks coming from the maternal side of the family.

The best sites for college baseball previews and information are....

Southeast Baseball (covers about 100 D1 southern schools)
http://sebaseball.rivals.com/

Roseblatt Report (nationwide coverage)
http://rosenblattreport.rivals.com/

Both of these sites cover only college baseball, where Baseball America has to fit the college info in with the high school and professional levels.

Both sites have "premium areas", but they offer 7-day free trials. I have them both, and really enjoy the insight and articles, along with the message boards.

Be good,
David
